If you wait awhile on the PS3, the games you want will:

a. Be Cheaper
b. Released

and the system will be:

a.Possibly Cheaper
b. Possibly bundled with games that you like
c. Might expand features (BC anyone?) Big might.

If you wait on the PS2, the games you want will:

a. Not be any cheaper than they are now
b. Be more difficult to find
c. Possibly more expensive

Anyway, Jo, congrats! Remember to get SotC (I know it'll be your first game), and don't forget Persona 3 and 4. MGS collection is a great choice too

get the ps3 a used 60 gb model and if you have a good internet connection get warhawk it's the best game out there

He speaks the truth! SotC is definitely worth it, and so are Persona 3 FES and Persona 4. You can find P3:FES at Gamestop for 19.99 new during their crappy game sale thing they have going on right now. It's only like ten bucks cheaper, but hey, that's money you're saving!

SotC is pretty easy to find, though the new copies are player choice boxes at twenty bucks. Still cheap used though!

MGS collection is a great deal. I got that before I played MGS4 just to get familiar with the series again.

Now that you own a PS2, buy Shadow of The Colossus, or Wander will come to your house and bitchslap you

Also, I would recommend God of War, not sure if it's your cup of tea or not. Also try Ratchet and Clank, and Jak and Daxter.

If you have no intention or interest of playing a PS3 title then lets not push you to get a PS3. So if you're ONLY interested in PS2-only games, well then you'll definitely get a lot out of the money you wouldve used on a PS3.

Unfortunately the current PS3 does not have backwards compatibility. We all just hope that they'll bring it back in the future.

If you're willing to spend the cash, there are a number of original 60gb PS3 and 80gb MGS4 PS3 bundle for sale on ebay and amazon.

Think carefully about this though. We wouldnt want you to spend your money on a PS2 and a bunch of games and later you then realize that you want a PS3 and its games, in which you couldve used all your PS2 & PS2 game money towards the PS3 instead. =)

After everyone joked about the recent PS2 price cut, everyone is telling him to buy a PS2. Funny.

Anyway, I'd buy a PS3. It's worth the money. And you can find a lot of great and really cheap games already.

But the PS2 is awesome too. Especially for 99 bucks!

save up for a older 60 gig model that play's PS2 games.
i have a PS3 with the PS2 chip in it and i never played any PS2 game.
PS2 games on a high def lcd looks really bad.
