Forums - Nintendo - Are Wii sales starting to fall off in Americas and Others as well as Japan?

It will rise in sales when better games come out
Plus they haven't had new color schemes or a price cut they have plenty of cards to play

lol at Ail and BTfeather. They are awaiting so anxiously to see the wii fall that they distort and twist data to their odd weird vision.

On Topic the Wii saw a dropoff of over 50% in Others this week from last week and last week was the lowest week in several weeks following another week that was the lowest week in a while.

Eh? It's up 10% from last week, not down 50%.

Oh, False alarm then.  I was thinking it sold 299,000 in Others last week instead of total.

makes sense if you look at the software side, it's not hard to figure out, not like it's the end of the world for Wii.

Yeah, but if Microsoft or Sony had a big game coming out  now, they could take a bit of advantage of this.

do you mean 1st party or 3rd party? MS has no good 1st party games, and Sony are coming up with some stuff, and there are games coming out for them too, but it still won't hurt Wii no matter how big they are, it's not like a turn over will ever happen at this point.

If the Wii fell down to N64 numbers or Gamecube numbers for a couple of years and PS3 numbers went up to peak PS1 and PS2 numbers, it could get more interesting.

My response is 6966.

As in the number of more Wiis sold than Xbox 360s and PS3s combined last week.

All sales are slowing, it is off peak and the economy is not in what would be called good shape (the US unemployment rate is over 8 percent for example).

So even if sales are slightly down, so are the sales of the other consoles.

Wii Sales Q1 and H1 by Year, Region and Total

I've included Q2 extrapolations in italics based on the current numbers. Here is the thing though - we know that at least some boosts are possible/likely from the following items/events/games in Q2 from the extrapolated rates:

- Golden Week (Japan)

- Monster Hunter G (Japan)

- Wii Sports Resort (Japan

- Motion Plus (Americas/Others)

- Punch Out (Americas/Others...Brett suggested it could do 5m worldwide in a conversation earlier)

- Desperation for women to get fit (EA Active/Wii Fit May-June boost)

- USA Tax Refunds (I know I get mine in May - guess where its going: games)

- End of school in Europe/Japan/Americas usually results in a minor boost in May/June for all systems

- Movie games - Xmen, Harry Potter, Ghostbusters etc - sometimes these games breakout (Americas)

- At a more macro-level the Pound-Yen exchange rate could recover allowing Nintendo to drop the Wii price in the UK to where it was before

- Tiger Woods could perform real well with Motion Plus

Right-o... the total numbers are still staggering for Q's and H1 for '09.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
