Forums - Nintendo - Is Nintendo trying to make Pikmin known?

Pikmin was badass when I first played it, and it looks like they are pushing the series more lately. Now if only they would push for another Luigi's Mansion! I gotta replay Pikmin 1 again. I have yet to play Pikmin 2 but I heard it was pretty damn good.

Whatever happened to that Pikmin potted plant that Nintendo gave to RMC?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Well I believe Miyamoto only admitted it after constant nagging after Nintendo's embarrassing E3 (and I believe he subsequently admitted that the Zelda and Mario teams were also working on something).

I'm definitely going to buy Pikmin 2 Wiimake (already own Pikmin 1 for the GC, unfortunately didn't buy Pikmin 2), and I am kind of stoked for Pikmin 3 (although again, I want to see more than just a mere confirmation that it is being made).

Well, they really aren't trying tohide the fact taht they're trying to make the series known, but there's a flaw with your #4 and #5 argument.

4: That's because both of those games are recent first-party releases on their respective platforms.

5: The reason Miyamoto aditted to making Pikmin was because all the Nintendo reps, from him to Iwata, to Reggie, to Dunaway, were obviously completely embarrassed by their E3 presentation. If he had really wanted to let people know about it, they would have shown a trailer or some gameplay DURING the show. It's family-friendly enough, so why not? He was basically goaded into saying it, anyway.

But yeah, they're not hiding the fact that they want people to know about it. The Gamecube wasn't as popular as previous Nintendo platforms, and Pikmin games didn't sell 'fantastically', so they of course want to create a fanbase on Wii before another full-fledged sequel comes out.

On 5: Nintendo wasnd't embarrassed with their show. They came with a purpose that that was fulfilled. It's only embarrassing from the perspective of the hardcore becuase Nintendo did not announce things with what is importaint in their mind (Animal Crossing and a Wii Sports sequel were the biggest announcement at E3 as they would make the most money). Nintendo let Pikmin out of the bag to both appease and shut up the core.

Yeah but there was a massive online backlash to the whole presentation. I honestly dont think they were expecting that, or else they would have announced at least one h/c game.

After they saw the response from Nintendo fans, then they may have been embarrased.

It was pretty clear from all of their reactions that they knew how much it sucked.

Hell, here's Iwata actually apologizing for it: http://www.wiinintendo.net/2008/07/22/iwatas-apology-for-e3-08/

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Pikmin has indeed gotten more exposure as of late, which I've noticed on my recent trips to GameStop. Also, didn't you notice Olimar in Brawl . . . ?

Nintendo send me a free Red Pikmin hat in Animal Crossing Wii last month, to coincide with the release of the new Play control version. They are obviously trying to increase its recognition as a main Nintendo franchise.

pikmin 3 is probably coming, and it makes sense!

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

I think it was a brilliant cost effective strategy to introduce new gamers to Pikmin. I knew almost nothing about Pikmin having missed the GC era. NPC Pikmin at its price point was exactly the motivation i needed to get into the series. Now i am hooked.

I also expect for the sales of both NPC Pikmins to rise significantly after Pikmin 3 is officially announced and shown.

I would not be surprised if the two NPC Metroid prime games are also being developed too boost interest in a new Metroid Prime game (and to some extent spur sales of MP3)
