Well, they really aren't trying tohide the fact taht they're trying to make the series known, but there's a flaw with your #4 and #5 argument.

4: That's because both of those games are recent first-party releases on their respective platforms.

5: The reason Miyamoto aditted to making Pikmin was because all the Nintendo reps, from him to Iwata, to Reggie, to Dunaway, were obviously completely embarrassed by their E3 presentation. If he had really wanted to let people know about it, they would have shown a trailer or some gameplay DURING the show. It's family-friendly enough, so why not? He was basically goaded into saying it, anyway.

But yeah, they're not hiding the fact that they want people to know about it. The Gamecube wasn't as popular as previous Nintendo platforms, and Pikmin games didn't sell 'fantastically', so they of course want to create a fanbase on Wii before another full-fledged sequel comes out.

On 5: Nintendo wasnd't embarrassed with their show. They came with a purpose that that was fulfilled. It's only embarrassing from the perspective of the hardcore becuase Nintendo did not announce things with what is importaint in their mind (Animal Crossing and a Wii Sports sequel were the biggest announcement at E3 as they would make the most money). Nintendo let Pikmin out of the bag to both appease and shut up the core.
