Forums - Nintendo - Reggie talks about the competition

It's good to see Microsoft is getting respect for the online department from the competition. Microsoft really did show that online can work and that it will be a huge part in the future of gaming. It was much easier for Sony to develop PSN because a lot of what they provided they just look at what Microsoft was doing. They still do the same thing today with the patches which are usually one step behind XBL (Trophies, in game guide button, soon to have party chat, etc.)

Nope! PS2 had some online games as well, Microsoft stole that button from PSP and PSX, the only thing they stole it where trophies, but if you ask me achivments are the same like some bonus features in Ratchet and Clank and God Of War series on PS2.

Maybe his comment is a sentiment towards frustration that the PS3 does get great games even though it has the least marketshare and in many cases is more expensive to develop for.

Apart MGS4 what great exclusive games did PS3 get or will have in the near future???

Several.

Well if you know some third party PS3 exclusive that reached million just name it please.

That phrase is pretty meaningless nowadays. However, there are lots of ps3 exclusives that are breaking a mil. If you specifically want 3rd party exclusives though, I'd say that there just aren't enough to draw any reasonable statistical conclusions from.

 Really just name it please...

They've already been named. I find it more difficult to name sony first party games that haven't broken a mil. GT5:P. Motorstorm, LBP, KZ2, R1, R2, Uncharted, R&C and HS are all first party games and they've all broken a mil. Singstar, WKC and Socom are actually the only sony games I can think of that haven't broken a mil. However, they seem like they should do so eventually.

Honestly I don't think my answers would ever satisfy you, you seem to have something else in  mind. You'd do well to explain what point you're trying to make with this.

Well you're right this isnt what I was talking about. I'm talking about third party exclusive game. For a console to be successful, you have to get some exclsuive third party big hitters. So far the only one Sony got is MGS4 and I don't think it will have others.

The point here is quite simple. Sony can brag about their first party development division as long as they want but they don't receive great third party support anymore and the reason is simple : third party publishers won't sell enough to make large profit if they make it exclusive to the PS3. So I guess Reggie was right.

So how many dozen third party exclusive did the Xbox360 get so far ?

Gears, ME and ?

Third party exclusives are a thing of the past.....

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Well, you'll have to understand that a system can't have 3rd party EXCLUSIVE best sellers if it doesn't have the EXCLUSIVES in the first place. And no, a console doesn't need 3rd party big hitters to be successful. Just take a long hard look at the Wii.

Frankly, you're beating at straws here. reggie himself has complained about the wii not getting certain 3rd party games even with it's success yet the wii is still successful. If anything, sony copying nintendo's strategy and building a huge 1st party dev base will ensure that they never experince the debacle that was the ps3's first year on the market ever again.

And Reggie said ps3 has good games but some just don't sell. The first thing that came to my mind was LBP (which is sony's problem) not any 3rd party game.

I suddenly had a vision of Nintendo buying Microsoft... Is this the future?

You realize that the profit Nintendo makes in a year is pocket change for Microsoft ?

They make as much profit in a quarter as Nintendo does in a full year.

Not so long ago they had little over 50 billion $ on hand that they had no use for so they gave back huge dividends to long time holder of the stock........

Right now Microsoft still has a little over 20 billion cash on hands...

That's because Nintendo only makes games and consoles(Ok, and a lot of crap toys of pokemon)

You should compare the gaming devision of Microsoft with Nintendo.

Ps: That comment he made was clearly a joke.

So let me get this straight nintendo's biggest hitters are it's first party titles, sony's biggest hitters are it's first party and second party titles..........how is reggie right when it is all said and done that the wii "still" does not get more third party support than the ps3?

Million dollar 3rd parties on the ps3:

1)Fifa 08   1.68 million

2) Grand theft auto 4    5.55 million

3) smackdown vs raw 08  1.14 million

4) devil may cry 4          1.26

5) resident evil 5         1.65 million

6) pro evolution soccor     1.73 million

7) burnout paradise  (with downloads) 1 million+

And these are just the few I could find off the top of my head, basically 95% of these are not even on the wii so your point would be?

Sales on consoles go like this 1st and 2nd parties makes the lion share and third parties usually get the scraps. This is how it has been on Nintendo consoles from the beginning and how it is currently........this is why they have to many problems with third party support (and that cartridge debacle).

Without talking about MH3, DQX, FFCB and another M&S game.

Both FFXIII, exclusive to the PS3 in Japan and Final Fantasy Versus XIII should sell well over a million copies in Japan alone if they sell anything like most of the past FF games.

Third party

US/EU = Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, Valkyria Chronicles, inFamous,

Japan = Yakuza 3, White Knight Chronicles, Demon's Souls, Warriors Orochi Z

Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet and InFamous are first party. WKC and Demon's Souls are also published by Sony.

Valkyria Chronicles, Yakuza 3 and Warriors Orochi didnt even reach the 500k mark.

You said "great exclusive games" didn't say million sellers.

Media Molecule and Insomniac aren't owned by Sony. Nice try. Next time do research.

Also, Yakuza 3 and Warriors Orochi have yet to have a western release.

First party game = game PUBLISHED by Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo not developed. Next time do research.

How much did Yakuza 2 and Warriors Orochi (PS2) in the West? Thanks!
