Forums - Sony - Killzone 2 fastest moving title for Sony, has sold 500,000 units

Killzone 2 is definitely my current favorite multiplayer FPS of all time. It has a lot of good points most reviews totally missed aside from the fact that it beats everything graphically, which is pretty awesome for a developer who had never made anything on that scale before.

I was just musing about what a publisher better at selling to Americans would have been able to do with the game, since as Americans we're pretty obsessed with FPS.

Well if these N/A numbers proves anything it's that Americans are obsessed around the hype surrounding a game, and not with the actually quality of the game, because the general media wont advertise the quality or lack there of in games. This is the reason why games like Liar, Too Human, Haze, or even MadWorld “bombed”. From what I can see Nintendo and Sony don’t spend too much on advertising as Microsoft does, which is fine, I believe Nintendo and Sony set a budget for their games and try their best to stay within that budget.

According to vgchartz.com, KZ2 sold 1.35 million worldwide.

kilzone 2 sales are and will be disappointing...

no i didnt say they are poor... i said they are disappointing.

Or maybe its just ignorance.

All of there titles sold good, OVER a long preiod of time not first week/month.

And tell me when ever has a FPS been the fasted best seeling anything on a PS console, never.  The fact that it is the fastest selling PS3 game shows how good its sales really are.

@Kowenicki

Did you not read this?

"Killzone 2 has been the fastest SCEA PS3 title to break the 500,000 unit mark and it's also the highest selling SCEA PS3 title for the first 30 days out of launch," detailed Steinberg. "So far, we are extremely happy with the results."

So now "Extremely happy with the results" means disappointing?

The games prequel only sold 2M lifetime for crying out loud, not to mention on a console with around 100M install base. It is only disappointing to those who held to it to ridiculous 2M+ first week sales only so they can claim it to be disappointing now.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

How so?  It's Sony's fastest selling first party title since GT4.  That's hardly disappointing.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

which was few and far between because me and zexen went through the kz2 projection thread and their were more < 400k than over 750k. the average was actually 690k first week even with those over estimates.

I know that, but it is much more fun to cherry pick the few "OMG 1.5-2M first week!" predictions and use them as a generalization for this games expectations, even if those expectations do not match the developers.

We live in an age where anonymous people on an internet forum know more than the developers themselves, even to point where these people can be sure that this game also cost 100M to make.

i could use the same arguement in reverse...

how many sony fans predicted lower first week sales than they really belived likely or possible.

fact is... it isnt exactly setting the world on fire with extraordinary sales and isnt it obvious that THE most hyped game on the PS3 that is also a shooter is going to be the biggest selling title in america so far... whats the big deal?

You can't use the argument either way Kowenicki.

Sony says they are "extremely happy with the sales". This means it is NOT disappointing.

End of story.

@Bolded

LOL @ the consipracy theory. Give it a rest already.

You are wrong, be humble and just admit it.

As for being a shooter in America, you are aware that the PS3 demographic is not the same as the 360 right?
