That crying is perhaps the most annoying sound effect ever in a videogame.

Super Mario World, I loved the new Yoshi's and everything about it was great.

^_^
Super Mario World, yoshi is a beast, I love that game
Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.
One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.
Although SMB3 is IMO by far the most impressive NES game (however IMO the bulk of NES games weren't actually good or even decent, ports were quite horrible for the time),
I have to say Super Mario World, I like the gameplay better and the graphics and audio are also way better (also better than the Snes All-Stars version, which is also great). I like Yoshi and the Super Mario Cape more than the Raccoon suit.
If I have to pick, I would have to say SMW because of Yoshi and the hidden passages/stages.

This one is damn close. But I'll have to go with Super Mario World. Bigger levels and they are replayable, with lots of secrets to find.
Both games are easily at the top of the platforming genre.
