Forums - Nintendo - Pokemon Television series question!!!

Ok guys, here is my Pokemon history.

I used to watch the tv series in the early days, and eventually played (and ADORED) Pokemon Yellow.  I am currently replaying it and a friend has obtained two other games (I think Red and Blue) for my birthday and is sending them too me.  I know the first generation of Pokemon off by heart, and my greatest gaming dream (short of a brilliant Perfect Dark 2 or proper Wii Zelda) is for a home-console first generation Pokemon RPG game.

But I have never played a game or watched a TV series involving the later generations.  I dont particularly have anything against them, they are just completely foreign to me.

Today I bought the box set of Pokemon Season 1 on DVD.  I am wondering a few things.  Is the second season still just first generation Pokemon?  What about the third?

And if I go on too purchase all (eight?) seasons, am I likely to find them as enjoyable as the first?  Am I likely to want to play the games if I watch the television series and become acquainted with latter generation Pokemon?

Yea the 1st and 2nd and 3rd seasons are still the first gen. There are 10 complete seasons. The 11th season is almost complete, 4 more episodes.the first gen and 2nd and 3rd gen are different. The first gen had no pokemon contests but the 2nd and 3rd do.And there are different girls in each gen. 1st misty. 2nd May. 3rd Dawn. After watching the season, u feel like playing the game, cuz they are soo alike. You should watch the 1st gen and the 3rd Gen. The 2nd gen (Hoenn) was boring. The characters were crazy and the game(pokemon Sapphire/ruby) based on the 2nd gen was the worst pokemon game ever! The 3rd gen, IMO, is the best so far. Its got more drama. And i find the diamond and pearl movies better. And the legendary pokemon are awesome!!!! And Ash's outfit is awesome, and the Diamond and PEarl series has a better storry. And ash has a new rival Paul who treats his pokemon brutally. The 3rd gen has loads of new pokemon......so watch the 1st and 3rd gen, skip the 2nd. You can watch it if u want to, but im just saying this so u dont waste your money.

Sorry, I know this is off-topic, but I just have to post it anyway ^^

In blaydcor's thread, "Pokemon: My reflections on why the series is no longer fun", I speculated what my ultimate Pokemon game would be like.

Pokemon was huge for me when I was younger. I watched the series, I collected the cards and I played the games. For a while at least. But this was all back in the day when there only 151 pokemon, 8 badges and one league, and with addition of more pokemon, I couldn't help but feel that the series was getting milked, and that the games were more rehashes of the old ones than actual new entries. In other words, the novelty wore off.

So I got thinking, what would my ultimate Pokemon game be like? And this is what I came up with:

It should take place on the original continent only. There is only 151 pokemons, 8 badges and one league. It should be a completely new story, and while still revolving around the good old "recieve pokemon, win badges, beat league/rival", it should have some more depth, make a good story for it.

The game should be released on the Wii, and be seen in third person. The fighting system should be upgraded, but only in a way that shows the "we know we are in the 7th generation of consoles, and that the gameplay can be improved", and not necessarily a completely new system.

The game should be filled with options for exploration, and you should be throwing pokeballs with the motioncontrols.

This would be my kind of pokemon game, I think it's a bit like the Street Fighter IV actually. Remove all the shit that has cropped up over the years, and give us the essence of what is great about the series.

This would be so awesome...
