Every Nintendo-made product (hardware or published software) has a PIN with it that you enter on their site, and adds value. I think the rule of thumb is that for every dollar it costs, you get one coin for that, so Wii Retail games being worth 50, DS games being worth 30 or so, etc.
Still haven't registered all my DS games yet, and i think i might have lost my Wii's PIN, which would suck for this case.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
You can go to your Wii Shop channel and link your Wii to your Club Nintendo account. You'll get coins if you download a game for a certain time period after it comes out, though what games this works for seems to be kinda random in my case.
A couple weeks before a Nintendo game launches, you can go to Club Nintendo and submit your intent to buy it. You'll get bonus coins when you go to register your new release on Club Nintendo.
A couple months after you register a Nintendo game, you'll be sent a survey for your thoughts on the game after playing it. Another ten coins for filling that out.
I hear you get bonus coins on your birthday, too.

Register everything you have that is a Nintendo product.

Nintendo still doomed?

To link a Club Nintendo Account to a Wii Shop Account:

I can't get my Wii Shop Channel linked up with my Club Nintendo account.
