Forums - Nintendo - Post here if you're playing Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on Hyper Difficulty

Wow, I have exactly 0 characters left for the title!  :)

Obviously, if you're playing on Hyper, you've beaten the game.  That means that this thread will contain ***SPOILERS***.  If you have NOT beaten the game, don't whine to me because you accidentally read about the final boss fight with "father brain" and being stuck permanently in hypermode.  :P

So I first played through Corruption on Normal difficulty.  I chose Normal rather than Veteran because although I've beaten the first Prime on Hard, Echoes was a pain for a number of boss battles even on regular difficulty, so I didn't know how difficult Corruption would be.  I wanted to experience the entire game and not get frustratedly stuck somewhere, and have to restart on a lower difficulty, so I chose Normal.

Normal is a friggin' cakewalk.  There are only a small handful of situations even remotely threatening on Normal difficulty.  So when I finished, I decided to skip Veteran and go right to Hyper.  HOLY CRAP, is this difficult!  I've seen the Game Over screen three times so far, at Rundas, at the space pirate base on Bryyo when you're trying to take out the anti-air cannons, and at Mogenar.  I've just beaten Mogenar on my second attempt.

This guy just will not go down!  It must have taken me half an hour to kill him.  You have to play nearly perfectly, avoid 95% or more of his attacks, take every opportunity you get to suck in the few energy powerups he leaves, and while doing all that, you have to really keep up the pressure on him.  His red spheres actually slowly regain health, as I would find after blasting his back repeatedly only to see it pure red the next time he turned around.  Not only that, but if he's got an open socket and reaches for a pair of spheres, you have to basically blast them right away and as fast as possible to destroy them before he gets them and sets you back another 5 minutes.

I haven't felt this kind of triumph from beating a boss since... well, since beating the Omega Pirate, Meta Ridley, and Metroid Prime on Hard in the first Metroid Prime.  :)  I'm really looking forward to the rest of the game, though honestly I was extremely frustrated when I died at the pirate compound.  I hope I manage to survive the assault on the pirate homeworld.

im not getting past to rundas, it's a pain in the ass always when i try to avoid the ice slinger thingy, i almost always push 2 or 3 times on the jump button (A for me) and thats stupid becouse she will just jump up then and i wil get hit . it's a lot of damage I take every time. i tried for 4 times now. oh i played it on veteran the first time.

I've been playing it since yesterday. I find it rather enjoyable and it really puts your skills to the test, and the Wii-mote is allowing just that! I find myself even more immersed in the game, trying to dodge every single bullets or shockwaves coming at me/Samus and time my charged shots perfectly.

Yep, it's really fun! I was just surprised that I almost died because of a Crawlmine on the G.F.S Olympus (Health: 99... *gets hit* Health: 39!!), but other than that it was a breeze, for now. The boss battles are definitely more intense and have more health though, which is a big big plus in my book!

I'm at Bryyo, just starting it as we speak. I'll post some more impressions in a couple of hours/days, whenever I find the time to play this awesome game. =)

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

One of the important things to learn is that you can't play around with enemies in hypermode. You have to use hypermode to kill them then exit hypermode as soon as they're dead to save energy.

yea same here. I think for that part, where hes chunking huge glaciers at u, all you have to do is walk towards him or morph ball towards him. No matter where u are, that things gonna get ya. At least for me, its the only way i could aviod it.

Nah, there is an easy way to dodge the attack. Simply double-dash to the left or right approximately 1~2 seconds before he releases the big chunk of ice, not right after he releases it. I was able to finish him quite fast too. When you start the fight, use the Missile and Charge shot combo until you can pull off his armor. Right after you pull it off, change to Hypermode and keep pressing the attack button (A or B, depends on your setup) while dodging his "freeze" attack. He's supposed to have half of his Health bar depleted if you were successfully able to use up a full Energy Tank on him. For the rest of the fight, you repeat the process while still dodging his attacks. You just have to be really fast!

Don't forget, before the fight (against the Space Pirates), only use your Missiles and Charge shots until they are all dead. You want to keep at least 3 Energy Tanks for Rundas.

For my personal experience, I had 18 energy left at the end of the fight only because I wasted an Energy Tank on those poor little Space Pirates. It was fun though! ^^

Absolutely, you can't ever let your guard down.  100% focus at all times.  It's a lot more stressful, but ultimately more rewarding.

I didn't find Rundas too difficult the second time, once I was used to his attack pattern.  It's really important to shoot down all the big ice chunks he throws at you, and collect as much energy from them as you can to fuel hypermode.  You can even do the same once he's hurt and starts firing at you while he's ice surfing, shoot down the small shots and collect energy.  You just have to stay focused, and make the most of your hypermode when you activate it.

Prepare to see all the Demolition Troopers be obliterated in the blink of an eye.

I started Hypermode two days ago.  I've always complained that the Metroid Prime games were two easy (even on hard) so having some real difficulty is refreshing (but occasionally frustrating).  I just beat Ghor yesterday (he was, as always, easy)

It's actually not that bad. I think beating Halo 2 on legendary solo is a lot more frustrating.

@Cadence^ That's what going into hypermode and positioning yourself between the pirates and the demo troopers is for.

Dark Samus and Aurora 213 will most likely be a pain, but I think it's doable.

I think the final AU will be easy compared to the parts of the game leading up to it. My first time through, I thought it was easy by comparison to the rest. Unless they've upgraded its attack patterns or something, but the trend seems to just be more boss health and more damage to Samus. I don't think I ever went above 1/3 of the corruption meter at the end.
