Forums - Nintendo - What games are Nintendo going to give us for Wii this year?

@ trestres

Cool, can you take a look into the future?

So far for this year we got 2 new games announced, Excitebots and Punch Out. Last year for the first half we had 4 games, Brawl, Wii Fit, MKWii and Endless Ocean.
In 2007 we had 6 games on the first half.

Follow the pattern: 6 -> 4 -> 2

Same for the 2nd half: 6 (2007) -> 4 (2008) -> 2 (2009)

Nintendo are only going to release Wii Sports Resort and S&P2 in the second half. 4 new games in a whole year is really bad. Maybe Wii Fit plus is the holiday title and Reggie will launch S&P2 either in Q1 2010 or as a holiday title so we dont whine about no new core games. Remember they will fill up all the holes with GC ports.

But they're not from quality first-party studios. That means EAD #1-5, IS, Retro, HAL or Game Freak. That's nine main studios there and only one of them has a Wii title this year (WSR)?

Nintendo has a huge amount of third-rate studios that they outsource the projects they don't want to do. Example: Alphadream makes the SMRPG series suck, Artoon ruined Yoshi's Island DS, Genius Sonority has made three rubbish Pokemon console games and counting... I don't consider these studios "Nintendo".

I want earthbound on vc

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

Biggest pikmin fan on VGchartz I won from a voting poll
I am not a nerd. I am enthusiast.  EN-THU-SI-AST!
Do Not Click here or else I will call on the eye of shining justice on you.

I forgot about Sin & Punishment 2

I still think we will get 8 games, 4 traditional & 4 for the expanded audience.

So we have Punch Out, Excitebots, & S&P2. A lot of ppl here are saying Kirby, u guys probably know something i don't since u even know the full title for that game. But I hope u guys are right!

BTW, anyone here think dynamic slash will come over?? It looks really good, but i don't know if it's within Nintendo's strategy to release too many games in NA :'(

I wouldn't count on Dynamic Slash making it out of Japan.. The reason we're all saying Kirby is because it's been on Nintendo's release list for the past couple of years and has shown up again this year.. It's obviously there for a reason.. The name may change but that's what it was called when it was still a GameCube game..

Now with your theory of 8 titles..

Last year Nintendo published these titles in the US:

- Endless Ocean
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- Mario Kart Wii
- Wii Fit
- Mario Super Sluggers
- WarioLand: Shake It
- Wii Music
- Animal Crossing: City Folk

So that puts the total amount of new Wii games at 8 titles

Comparing 2008 to this year.. We've gotten:

- New Play Control: Mario Power Tennis
- New Play Control: Pikmin
- ExciteBots: Trick Racing
- New Play Control: Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
- Punch-Out!!
- Wii Sports Resort
- New Play Control: Pikmin 2
- Sin & Punishment 2

Those I think are locked in.. But wait.. There's more! These are 95% certainties

- New Play Control: Metroid Prime
- New Play Control: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
- Endless Ocean 2: Beautiful Ocean
- Pikmin 3

That puts the total amount of games to..

New Play Control titles: 6
New Wii titles: 6

So Nintendo need to release another two new Wii titles for your prediction to be correct.. Now if I had to predict two titles, I'd say that Wii Fit Plus or a similar type of downstream title is likely and a more core focused effort will also be released to complement it in the second half.

So say:

- Wii Fit Plus
- Kirby: Legend of the Stars

That's a possibility..

What bugs me is that Nintendo have stated that they will be debuting key software that will rejuvinate the Wii and so far the key software that they'd have to debut at E3 that we've stated so far is:

- Wii Fit Plus
- Kirby
- Pikmin 3

....

Does this seem odd to you too?

Wii Sport Resort
Wii Fit Plus
Endless Ocean 2
ExiteBots
Punch Out
Sin & Punishment 2
Pikmin 3
Kirby Wii

Not very excited with this year line-up.

Well SOME of those second party titles from the october conference HAVE to make it out of Japan. Actually going back and looking at that montage almost every game in it that has seen release has bombed (both in Japan and the west, with the exception of wii music). (i'm ranking them in likelihood of coming out)

Punch out
Sin and Punishment
Endless Ocean 2
Trace Memory
Kensax
Cosmic Walker
Dynamic Slash (from here down is hopeless I think)
Takt of Magic
Spawn Smasher
Line Attack heroes

Man, the wii could have had such a great year! Look at this ideal release list window:

January:
Captain Rainbow, Disaster, Pikmin
Feb:
Fatal Frame IV, Trace Memory, House of the Dead
March:
New Play Control Mario tennis (to give Madworld some room)
April:
Excitebots, New Play Control metroid
May:
Punch Out!!

2nd Half:
everything else

at that point anything announced at e3 would have been gravy

I agree that it wouldn't be a spectacular line up if that was it but I just don't see how Nintendo could only have those games to release this year..

I went through their 2008 release list but how about we take a look at 2007?

  • WarioWare: Smooth Moves
  • Wii Play
  • Super Paper Mario
  • Mario Party 8
  • Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
  • Pokemon Battle Revolution
  • Mario Strikers Charged
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
That's already 8 and we're only in August..
  • Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast
  • Battalion Wars 2
  • Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Link's Crossbow Training
So in 2007 Nintendo managed to release 13 Wii titles, none of which were remakes. You're welcome to not include Wii Play but it's the second best selling game of the decade..

Also of note is the fact that Nintendo launched these titles in the two months before 2007:
  • Excite Truck
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Wii Sports
So over 14 months they released a total of 16 titles versus 8 titles in 2008. It's pretty clear that they burnt themselves out pretty damn quickly.

A few things are pretty clear to me:
  1. Nintendo have teams that are due to release games in the very near future.
  2. Nintendo know that Japan is faultering and the rest of the world usually follow Japan.. They have to build momentum in Japan and also ensure they remain the most wanted product in every other territory.
  3. They bunched up their game releases for a reason, to get the core crowd to buy the system quickly and build a big install base as soon as possible.
  4. They are now able to even space out their releases as they have the huge install base and need to maintain a stable level of growth.
  5. They now have steadily increasing third party support that they can rely on to sell systems and they don't have to be as aggresive as they were in 2007
So with all that in mind I think Wii will get 10 new titles this year along with around 6 New Play Control titles. What are those last two games? Who knows..

Wii Dance

EXPECT IT.

we're not getting a star fox for wii.. its not in development. there may be a kirby game coming but im not too sure.. they said they weren't developing one but that was over a year ago.

i suspect they're holding off until Wii Sports Resort is released to announce any new titles.
