Oh my god I just saw a thread about why People on forums feel threatened by the PS3 and a lot of people were disputing it but this thread just proves that everyone that doesnt support Sony fear it.

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

^ Which part? The awe inspiring shiny finish?

You haven't have recieved your hugs and kisses yet, I forgive. What I said applied to any publisher, but in this case I was talking about Sony.

HAHAHAHA!!!  It's the fact of the matter that what SONY announced is undeniably true.  But it pains some of you guys sooooooooooo much that anything is being thrown out to distract from the implication that SONY has the ability to continue churning out quantity and quality choices for the gamer.

:)

Actually it means a lot of different people. Some people wonder why there aren't more games released yet with those numbers, some people wonder if they are profitable. Some people wonder if/think they aren't as efficient as X publisher, some people take it as lotsa games for them, etc. You can take your pick because there have been a lot of responses along the lines of the above which is why its balooned out as a thread to over 200 posts.

Switching the discussion to profit would be exactly changing the subject to minimize the prospect of a large number of quality games in the pipeline.  Quality proof: we all know already, but additionally one can check metacritic.

As for efficiency arguments, those would be valid but we'd need to see some indication that other studios are more efficient.  Insomniac and Naughty Dog are very prolific.  Polyphony Digital is slow but their Gran Turismo games pay for themselves in like the first week.  etc.   Sony Santa Monica and Team ICO pretty much can't strike out.  Seems like on balance Sony is doing well.  What, is Rare more efficient?  What's the claim, here?

I think that some Sony devs have to this point been working on toolsets and Cell help, and that may be less necessary as time goes by.  Large operations might well be less efficient man for man but then again guys from one studio can go help or share with other studios.  We've heard of several instances lately (Naughty Dog and Santa Monica, etc)

^ Most people aren't fanboys who are scared of Sony 1st party games. I was just giving examples of different arguments, no need to try and answer me.

In a way, this is actually a whole lot smarter than Sony's usual PR speak. It plays into the current gamer zeitgeist, which is that Sony seems to have the best lineup this year for the first time this generation (whether most of those announced games actually hit shelves in 2009 remains to be seen).

It's particularly relevant considering how many studios Microsoft has shut down recently, and how quiet they've been lately, even on their 2009 lineup.

This may be part of an effort to position Sony as the most gamer-friendly console company, at a time when MS and Nintendo may very well start fighting over the casual territory.

Or maybe they just got lucky this time, and the foot slightly missed the mouth?

They just insulted themself....
Their first party dev is a lot bigger then Nintendo, but still Nintendo kicks their asses in the gaming department. Nintendo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> sony IN making games. If a Nintendo game sells less then 3M it's a failure.... Unless it's a remake or something. There are a lot of great Ninty games in the work right now like a new zelda, sports resorts, sin&punishment 2, pikmin3, punch out, excite bots, new mario(there's always a new Mario...),etc.. Retro studios is also working on something big.

Ps: Sony is the most arrogant company I've seen in ages... I would say Microsoft as well, but I like Bill gates. It's not like he's evil.

This!

I honestly can't believe people got so worked up over this as if it was news. Sony has been beating this fact into gamers head for at least two years.

How come nobody made such a fuss about this when Phil Harrison said this 2-3 years ago?

I don't want to read 4 pages of stuff, so my comment is this.

If Sony's 1st and 2nd party base is so much bigger, by be extension better, than MS and Nintendo combined, then why is it Nintendo is the only company that can carry their entire company solely of their software?

Why is it Nintendo made more profits from gaming than MS and/or Sony for every single year any of them has ever made video games?

Why is it Nintendo, who makes games on at most 2 platforms, is only 2nd to EA in publishing when EA makes games on every single possible platform there is to be found?

Why is it Nintendo never has to wonder if their game will be a million seller? Its usually will their game break 3m. 1m is almost a certainty.

More does not equate to better. PS1 and PS2 did not become the best selling home consoles of their times (and all time) because Sony makes great games. They sold so well because Sony worked very well with 3rd parties and retained a TON of great exclusives.

On the other hand, Wii is a massive success and will easily claim the crown from PS2 almost solely on Nintendo's software as most 3rd parties have only just begun to actually put forth solid efforts.

There is no better software maker than Nintendo. Its multiple decades of massive hits and record breaking titles prove this beyond a doubt.

You know as well as I do that brand recognition has a heavy hand to play in all of this.  Why is it that Twilight Princess manages to sell over 5 million, while the amazing (and quite similar) Okami goes completely unnoticed, not even breaking 500k across the two best selling consoles of all time?  Nintendo's titles don't sell so well simply because they're great games.

If Sony was still pumping out games like Crash Bandicoot, they'd probably be selling rather well today.  Instead they're constantly bringing new IPs to the table, new IPs that have to make a name for themselves in a sea of other games.  Their titles still manage to do this, however, with games like Uncharted and LittleBigPlanet breaking 2 million easily, and even their weaker offerings clearing the million mark (like Heavenly Sword, though obviously the horrible Lair didn't perform quite as well).

As for who is better overall, that is purely subjective.  Nintendo and Sony are my two favoite publishers, and which I prefer depends on what games have released recently.  Back when SSBB and Mario Kart Wii were coming out, Nintendo easily took top spot, but since Mario Kart they haven't released much I care about, while Sony has given me LittleBigPlanet (the best game this gen, imo) and Killzone 2.  As such, Sony are currently my favorite.

Of course, whenever Nintendo announces Zelda Wii, they'll probably be at the forefront of my attention from that very day until at least a month after I beat the game.  :P
