Forums - Gaming - Why Wii Hate?

I Love the Wii, but I its hated by Developer and people because it sort of breaks the rules on the evolution of consoles, especially Developers I think everybody wanted the HD twins to be big, but that little white machine is in way...thats the vibe I get. They just need to get over it

I don't hate the Wii, I just feel it panders to the lowest common denominator. I feel that games can be very intelligent, atmospheric, and engaging. Unfortunately those games are in short supply on the Wii. Most of the people who flock to the wii aren't my kind of gamers or at least I can have the same talks about it.

The fact that it makes more money than god only becomes an issue for me when developers throw all their collective energy making poorly designed games that make money. Whats the point of making a beautiful intellectually engaging ps3 game for 3 million and make 10 million (figures all made up) when you can make a 500k game and 8 million.

But if developers threw their collective energy into actually making games, they would not be poorly designed.

The problem is that they release poorly-designed, not well-thoughtout cash-ins rather than taking the time to do what can be done on the system.

The issue with the Wii is that since it does not have the same graphical power as the other two systems, developmers cannot simply port over from the Xbox 360 or PS3 (not that porting is ever "simple").  So they often don't try at all or don't try with any effort.

Meanwhile, since there are a variety of different types of Wii owners, making a game for one"type" of gamer (such as the traditional male age 15-29/34) is not always the best choice on the Wii.  If you look, it is often persons of that group who complain about the Wii (because there are multiple games which cater to other groups).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

@Arius Dion

I am not sure what you mean, but I assume you mean the Wii. If the system were to catch on with actually mature games (as oppose to the rating), then I would have to reconsider its place.
I will have to admit that the Wii has an innovative method of input and I am sure that could start looking at in a new light. I am not completely closed minded but I also dont see that as being very likely.

Yes I am a fan of the Playstation 3, but I am an even bigger fan of intelligent and rational dialog. (If you are up for an intelligent exchange of ideas, you are more than welcome to add me as a friend)

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future......NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

(haven't been playing much since I am broke)

you do know that the majority of the site is composed of nintendo fanboys right? there's more love for wii than any other system, not everyone loves the wii, just deal with that.

Khuutie? You mean the guy with the "Cartoony" Link Avatar?? He don't scare me..I'm the Real Hero of Time. lol.

Khuutra's the man, any input or contribution from him would be welcome. Much like yours. Also I see your point. That didn't even cross my mind actually, mainly because the games that interest me I pick up, the ones that don't..I don't. But I don't wish for those games not to be made ;cough Wii Music;

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

TheStrike: Mike actually further iterated what I was trying to say the first time. But Yeah I meant that if the effort and resources being allocated to the Wii meant more games of your liking would follow the games or stay "brand loyal" But you answered that question and I can respect that.

Ari Gold: I'm Not really demanding that people have to like the Wii..Asking why they hate or rather dislike the system.

Rol, as I've said, I have my own beliefs on why there is this "hate" and I will just say that I appreciate your post because you summed up my perspective as good if not better than I would have myself.

The Rol is changing the Vgchartz and some people feel threatened by it, because the Rol is doing so especially well. That may have an influence on future posters, they may become something like the Rol and not something like the twesterm or the Squilliam. That's why we get comments like "I'll probably post only Gaf next generation".

Some people just generally hate Rol, but what we are witnessing this generation isn't just the usual Rol vs. the rest stuff like in the past. It's the new way to play vs. the old way to play and people who hate the Rol aren't only the people who never liked Rol, but can also be those who liked Rol in the past.

They are all opposed to change and want things to stay the way they are. If the Rol wouldn't be doing so well, there wouldn't be so much hate because its impact would be minimal.

Tease.

criticizing the console doesn't mean they hate it. I don't care much for the wii, i don't hate it.

But who cares, more people love the wii than other consoles. And, all consoles get bashed.

in my personal opinion its dissapointing and a waste of time, i dont want to start a arguement or get off as trolling but i think wii is mainstream crap. Its like the Jonas brothers or Nickleback of video gameing.
