Gaming - Why Wii Hate? - View Post

I don't hate the Wii, I just feel it panders to the lowest common denominator. I feel that games can be very intelligent, atmospheric, and engaging. Unfortunately those games are in short supply on the Wii. Most of the people who flock to the wii aren't my kind of gamers or at least I can have the same talks about it.

The fact that it makes more money than god only becomes an issue for me when developers throw all their collective energy making poorly designed games that make money. Whats the point of making a beautiful intellectually engaging ps3 game for 3 million and make 10 million (figures all made up) when you can make a 500k game and 8 million.

But if developers threw their collective energy into actually making games, they would not be poorly designed.

The problem is that they release poorly-designed, not well-thoughtout cash-ins rather than taking the time to do what can be done on the system.

The issue with the Wii is that since it does not have the same graphical power as the other two systems, developmers cannot simply port over from the Xbox 360 or PS3 (not that porting is ever "simple").  So they often don't try at all or don't try with any effort.

Meanwhile, since there are a variety of different types of Wii owners, making a game for one"type" of gamer (such as the traditional male age 15-29/34) is not always the best choice on the Wii.  If you look, it is often persons of that group who complain about the Wii (because there are multiple games which cater to other groups).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
