Why does everyone think this gen will be longer?

just wondering..

Generations are usually like 5-6 years..and i've heard a lot of people say this one will be at least 10 years

Beacause PS3 says it will last 10 years...

There are many factors--the economy, the untapped potential of all of these machines, the ability to add new features via firmware updates--the list goes on.

..... And because the 360 will last 10 years and 1 day (If I remember correctly)....

Well, Sony has nothing to say in this gen...

They will be totally screwed when Microsoft or Nintendo releases an early console. It's going to be a total disaster for Sony if the new xbox will release in 2010- 2011.

I'm wondering what Sony will do next gen anyway... The wii will have an all powerful brand in the next gen if Nintendo decides to keep wii in it's name. Nintendo will make the cheapest console again... Sony is pretty much screwed next gen as well imo(I wouldn't mind being wrong though, so if Sony will win next gen then I won't care all that much)

No one is in a position in which they would desire a radical new change.

Nintendo is on top
Sony is fighting for profitability
MS and the 360 are beating the PS3

it's funny you have nintendo system as your avatar and you do not know that nintendo had one of the longest console generations so far and I think it was like 12 years....please someone correct me if I am wrong?  Plus last two generations have been pretty much around 10 years, so I am still not sure what generation you started gaming in.
