Good list, but MK should be much higher.

What a wack list. MK and Tekken need to be higher. SF is not the best fighter ever.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, more especifically, IS the best fighter. The list is wack indeed. They don't list games like Street Fighter Alpha and Marvel vs Capcom (are they grouping all SF games in just one?? wth...and all capcom "versus" games into one?)

It's clear they're talking about whole series here. I think it is just not fair to do that, since they're very GREAT games that are just unlucky to be part of a not very good series.

To me Street Fighter deserves #1

But imo the top fighting games are

(in no order)

Fatal Fury 3

fatal fury 3 instead of real bout? how strange,

anyway I think the list is pretty good actually street fighter is far too good and far too important not to be #1, plus I don't blame them for not including more obscure games like melty blood, last blade or garou mark of the wolves (the last and generally considerred the best fatal fury)

personally I think the single best fighting game, not series, Snk vs. Capcom MotM for the neo geo pocket, mix and match play style, great line up, great game play, and unlike most cross overs great background and music,

plus zangief and cancel into the spinning pile

good to see king of fighter and samurai shodown get the respect they deserve

only played FF 1 and 3, but i guess i should check out real bout

also glad to see someone one this thread that knows something about fighting games

And i hope that they do make another SNK vs Capcom, would be epic!

you should real bout is a significant improvement on fatal fury 3, it actually makes line switching and integral part of gameplay as well as reduce inbalance from cross ups by making them all manual

as far as snk v capcom again, just hope kof 13 is a big hit, and snk can get capcom to go in on another one, you can't tell me you wouldn't love to see capcoms guys in high definition complete with the incredibly fluid animation of kof 13

also even though I'm not a big fan of virtua fighter (i haven't really been able to get into one since 2) it's difficulty unquestionable comes from the rediculous skilled based things in it, such as counters which require very precise timing and button combinations,

tekken is a much more accessible fighting game by comparison probably one of the reasons why it was such a hit, anyone can atleast mash the button and do things that look cool against another player of similar skill or the computer opponents, certainly a better player will annihilate them but they can have fun if they good or not, this isn't to say tekken is bad in anyway, far from it, but easy to learn difficult to master is a staple to of a great product

were as in virtua fighter against another player of similar skill you'll be lucky to do a three punch combo and the matches will look boring and any cpu after stage 2 or 3 will handily floor a button masher,  virtua fighter takes a different approach, difficult to learn, insane to master, much more of a dedication required rather than optional game

Dude you totally got it lol, many people dont really know much about fighters to really give a god debate. I do agree that smash should be on the list, it is far from number 1 but it is a in depth fighter (melee i mean) I love Smash and Melee but think Brawl was a step way back.

I agree with you on tekken, same goes for soul calibur. They are great and fun games but i feel that the characters are really unbalanced (specially Jin, Kazuya, devil and Heihachi) But it takes a skilled player to fully understand just one character (lee Chaolan FTW) and to fullly understand and time their movements.

Street Fighter and KOF are the kings IMHO, every character is balanced (except Seth in SF4, who ever created him should die) There is nothing broken about the combat, it is simple for others to get in but so deep that the hardcore scene have enough to flush out. If your not skilled at any of these games, you'll get your @$$ handed. I do agree it takes some skill to juggle in tekken but in Sf, KOF,and Virtua Fighter if your skills aren't up to par in everything, you'll never win.

Although I can't say I've played all of those Fighters, (actually, to my dissapointment I've played few of them), I thought they may place Tekken a bit higher. I enjoy it a lot more than Virtua Fighter, but the technical level of VF was just too high for me probably. But Tekken is heaps of fun, and has a good story, with a cast of characters that I really enjoy playing as.

why do they even care about MK? where's Melty Blood, Smash Bros or Arcana Heart series

probably because mortal kombats made a huge impact and some of them are great games

as for no smash bros, I think they were going with traditional fighters, and not arena fighters like smash bros and power stone

as for no melty bloody or arcana heart, be fair about this they are pretty obscure games that came into existence rather late, even against guilty gear, the youngest series on the list

If less obscure and older series like Last Blade, fatal fury, or Darkstalkers couldn't make the list, it shouldn't be too suprising that these even less known games can't

you might as well ask why Power Instinct or Breakers wasn't on the list,

it isn't like there are any unquestionably bad series on the list, if say deadly moves, black hole assault or fight fever appeared then the list should be called into question, but all of these games are of some merit to some people

(anyone recognize any of the ultra awful fighters I mentioned?)

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with most of that list... though I was disappointed at no Darkstalkers... Street Fighter was the one that got me excited about games again... (I had temporary burn out from the NES era) But it's kind of hard for me to swallow that it's still No.1. I would say Virtua Fighter is my personal pick in that area the fact that Mortal Kombat made that list surprised me... I wasn't that impressed when it launched and for the most part I haven't been that impressed with the franchise as a whole. There is some fighters from the past and maybe from the present that I could just as easily replace Mortal Kombat with.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.
