Microsoft has allowed 'tons' of new successful IP to be created this gen as well - Gears, Mass Effect, Viva Pinata, Crackdown, and Alan Wake (since you want to mention MAG - an unknown quantity just the same).

How many  of those can be bought on PC versus Console?  I certainly have enjoyed many of those games since my 360 broke.

Is this just an excuse to flame MS / 360?

Your earlier argument was that Sony has put their name/money to some IP. Furthermore, you said this is why you prefer the PS3 over the 360. Well, Im just pointing out certain IP that MS has put their name/money on which is just as successful and also you cant get on the PS3. And whether you can get it on the PC, I dont see how this is relevant when MS still gave birth to those IP (although duh they are Games for Windows so MS still gets publishing fees).

Not at all.  The reason I really do at the core like Sony as a video game maker has never been sales or anything else.  Just the fact that they always have had wonderful franchises that would just get created out of thin air.    Nintendo not so much.  (Beyond their originals) and Microsoft not so much either.

And no 360 didn't give birth to these games if I can play them elsewhere.  That's the point. Multi-platform games I wouldn't count.  I can play Mass Effect, Gears and Alan Wake on PC.  If Xbox 360 didn't exist,  I could still play those games on PC for certain.   You can't say the same about most of the PS3 exclusives.

That's the whole point.  What IPs has Microsoft come up with for their original Xbox / 360 that actually have been 'new' and not just taken another companies exclusivity from a game?   Halo and ...  ?     I mean hell even Halo I could play on PC.

I disagree. The IPs/games I stated were created with the 360 in mind with a decision to port it to the PC at a later stage. Heck you cant (and wont ever) play Gears 2 on PC. And these IPs are massively more succesful on the 360 than their PC counterpart. I firmly believe that if the 360 didnt exist, none of those games would have - because MS' investment in Rare/Epic/Bungie/BioWare were definitely part of their 360 strategy.

Are you sure about that?  Games like Mass Effect/ Alan Wake totally appear like 'PC' born games.   What good IPs has Rare given Microsoft?  Bungie / Epic  (Halo and Gears) and....  Bioware makes PC games and always has.

what does it change if it's on PC it's still MSFT we are talking about

And secondly, I dont really have to argue on the above because consoles dont give birth to IPs, the publishing companies and developers with the ideas do. These 2 elements dictate the hardware/console. And thats why I am talking about MS and Sony rather than the 360 and PS3. So to answer your question on what IPs MS came up with, I would give you the same list as before. What is the difference of Sony paying the wages/bills for Insomniac/Naughty Dog so they have to make it on the PS3?

The point is,  if I want to get truly original, unique, IPs that differentiate themselves from the rest of the pack.  Sony has always provided that better than Microsoft has.  That continues onward today.  Which is precisely the point.  I have played numerous 360 games on my PC.

and then again what is the difference between your XB and your PC ???? same architecture or close and same brand of OS ???? now about MS I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure they did IPs that are more world famous than Sony.... Age of Empire, Close combat, motocross madness, flight simulator, midtown madness, monsterturck madness, mechwarrior, for the old one on top of my mind.... but when it comes to current licences they own right now it's not bad either....

Dont get me wrong though, Im not trying to flame you or say you cant prefer Sony/PS3. The bottom line of what Im trying to say is - you said you prefer the PS3 because Sony created IP, Im saying MS created IP as well. You made it sound like only Sony did.

Sony has created so many IPs with more consistency and this has happened since the Playstation brand formed.  Microsoft to date has stamped their name on Ex-PS2 exclusives.  (Which is great for 360 gamers)  but the fact remains that there isn't any creativity in that.   So what?  What 'new' games are you going to offer me?   I don't think the 360 delivers as well in that regard.

what PS2 exclusive ??? the one they stole from nintendo themself to put their stamp on it.....

stop making a difference between 360 and your PC it's exactly the same andthe fact something is on both but not on the other other platform doesn't make it multi plat as it is still MSFT exclusive.... it'd be stupid from MSFT to alienate their PC user and cut potential profit... so no microsoft to push those IP either on PC or 360 and you wouldn't be able to play them on PC or 360.... because it's not nintendo or sony that will be pushing stuff for PC either...

Bah...we heard ALOT of noise from everybody other than M$ BEFORE last year's E3, and then everything seemed to change after than...A ship date and some video clips of Alan Wake ALONE would suffice for most, I'd say. We know Gears of Wars 3 is on tap, so M$ could tease us to next fall, and this fall, we'd have ODST. I know some other console owners love tons of info, but why exactly? If you're releasing games every other week...aren't you going to oversaturated your marketplace? Last fall, I was SWAMPED in games, and I'm STILL trying to play thru most, while playing all the other games I have, and got to work, and the other RL aspect of living. Sorry, but 4-5 exclusives in a 3-4 month window, ALONG with the multi-plats is just far too much for me...

I doubt its going to happen but MGS4(Upgrade or sequel) on the Xbox 360 would cause a meltdown of epic porportions. But honestly I think MS is going to be the Nintendo of this E3, your going to see something along the lines of Scene it or Lips+ being announced with a Hardcore game that will end up being like Too Human

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

LIPs was a great game, but it could use SO MUCH more...since it is a social game, integration with Avatars would be awesome, and a better scoring system as well.  Look at how many GH and RB games have been launched since those released...we could definitely see a LIPs sequel.  As for Too Human...some of us can only pray that we get a more polished sequel...

Surpasses anything to date on PS3.

I say that because I do not believe for one moment that MS will allow Sony to pull ahead of them in either sales or quality.

It is just not in there make up to lose especially when they have put so much into it.

If you want an example just look at what they did to Apple I mean Jobs was the man and yet Gates made the Windows thing so successful.

They want 360 to stay top dog going into next gen so as to win this war outright.

I mean just look at the original Xbox PS2 pissed all over it yet they did not give up.

In fact it made them more determined to come out with the 360.

Your thoughts would be interesting.

Let's go with "rivals" instead.

It changes a lot when we're talking about starting new IPs for the console. If I can play half the games on a console through some other means,  is there really any point in owning the said console?    Nintendo has made a habit of this by having strong first party titles that can't be played anywhere else.   Sony has as well.

and then again what is the difference between your XB and your PC ???? same architecture or close and same brand of OS ???? now about MS I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure they did IPs that are more world famous than Sony.... Age of Empire? (PC).   Flight Simulator (PC).    Everything else? really?   Again,  I don't care if I can play it on the PC.  What IPs has Microsoft given you for the 360 that are worth a damn?Bolded below fit into that category.  Which of these came in the most recent generation ? In larger font.

As you can see...Microsofts new IP's have been.... and.... and....?

what PS2 exclusive ??? the one they stole from nintendo themself to put their stamp on it.....

I really don't feel like listing them all.

stop making a difference between 360 and your PC it's exactly the same andthe fact something is on both but not on the other other platform doesn't make it multi plat as it is still MSFT exclusive....

You do realize many games can also be played on a MAC as well right?  I could careless if it's a MSFT exclusive.  As it pertains to consoles,  If I can play it elsewhere what's the point in having to own a specific console?

If you could play Mario, Metroid, Zelda on your 360 would you even really consider getting a Nintendo system?  Most likely you wouldnt'.

it'd be stupid from MSFT to alienate their PC user and cut potential profit... so no microsoft to push those IP either on PC or 360 and you wouldn't be able to play them on PC or 360.... because it's not nintendo or sony that will be pushing stuff for PC either...

It would be stupid for MSFT to alienate their PC users.  (Which they are already in the process of doing by the way).   It still doesn't change the fact that MS has done very little in the creation of new IPs during their time in the industry.  (Halo and Gears notwithstanding).

Microsoft will have the best linup this year.

1. Halo ODST -Biggest selling game on a HD platform in 2009. Only COD MW2 is in the same league as this standalone Halo 3 expansion. The selling point will be the new multiplayer experience in the Halo Universe of course. Multiplayer: All the traditional features of Halo 3 multiplayer will be included in the new game, including full-featured integration with the Forge map editor.

2.Forza 3 - OK, Microsft didn't release any racing games in 2008. Usually they have one racing game in their yearly lineup. ALSO, PGR4 was announced in E3 2007 and was released in the fall of 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Gotham_Racing_4
So, we know it is coming....Forza 3 that is. PGR5 or a New Rallisport will be
sweet too.

3. All Points Bulletin (APB) - http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=61039
This game will be the Crackdown/GTA on a MMO scale. This game will be huge IMO and will served as a counter of sort to MAG on the PS3. Common, we have the maker on Crackdown making an opened World Sandbox game. This game is what GTA should have been.

4. Killer Instinct 3 - OK, Rare is making this and it is coming out this year. Worst kept secret ever. It was also rumored that Microsoft has a new game based on a popular online fighter. You put 2 plus 2 together, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out this game is coming out this year. Also, with the recent success of SF4 and to a lesser extend MK vs DC Universe, and Tekken 6 upcoming, no doubt Fighting games are making a strong comeback.

5. Perfect Dark 2 - The second game of the Rare dynamic duo in 2009. After the kiddie stuff like VIva Pinata, and a system launching game in PD0, this one will show the true graphics, gameplay powess of the RARE we love and know from the Nintendo days. Along with Halo ODST, this game will be marketed like a Gears of War from Microsoft, no doubt. I see a November release for his game, a few weeks apart from COD MW2 of course.

6. Alan Wake - This game was announced back in the KZ2 E3 trailer days like over 3.5 years ago. I think it should be ready by go this fall, ES is the perfect opportunity to showcase this graphics masterpiece.

7. SPlinter Cell Conviction - Was announced all the way back like 3 years ago. Went through some changes and was suppose to be release last year but was delayed , according to Ubsoft to booster their 2009 lineup. Expect this game to be out this fall as one of the blockbuster (Splinter Cell is a true AAA franchise)

8. Lost Planet 2 - Already announced a month ago and showed more gameplay footage than GOW3, MAG, Heavy Rain combined already. Since all three games are suppose to be released this year on the PS3, I don't see why wouldn't lost Planet 2 make it out on X360 this year as well. This may be timed exclusive but it will be only on xbox 360 for at least 6-12 months.

*9. Bungie Secret New IP - ODST was a side project done a small team. It will be 2 years since the release of Halo 3 and Bungie already announced they were working on a couple of new peojects right after Halo 3 was completed. I got to admit it might not make it in 2009 but can't wait what Bungie has in store for us. I think they will announced something to begin the Microsft hype Machine going again.

With this solid lineup, how can you say Microsft has no good game left? This lineup wil easily equal or pawned that of the PS3 in 2009.

I think this could be true, as in 2010 -2011, Halo 4, Gears of War 3, Fable 3, PGR5, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Crackdown 2, The 2 lionhead games, Two more from Rare, Bungie new IPS(see above), Mistwalker New RPGs will all make the xbox 360 stay ahead of the PS3 until the release of the Next Box in 2012.

Great post Rayray, though I would masturbate if Rare can hit two home runs with KI3 and PD 2 at once.

Tease.

When Two Rare games and Lost Planet make your list of domination. You know you're in trouble.
