Forums - Nintendo - Enough of this "core" talk from Nintendo fans.

Megadude said:

What is with all this talk about core and niche and casual with Wii fanboys? "This game sold like crap because it's not core it's niche", "Petz isn't shovelware it's casual", "Core is not hardcore it's any game that bolsters my arguement at the current moment".

2 years and three months later I can count the number of great Wii games on one hand (PS2 and Gamecube ports not included). As a Wii owner that makes me sick. But not Wii fanboys. They are too busy jumping up and down with joy every time the Wii outsells crack, or gets a larger shelf spot in their local Walmart.

STOP defending trash on Wii with excuses about core, casual and niche. Get involved. Inform your local community that the Wii is so much more then the sub-par games that seem to be all the rage these days. If good games sell well on Wii that means they will make more of them.

hmm well that sucks for you that your opinion on games isn't the same as most wii owners.  heck check out the thread were people list how many wii games at retail they own, vc games, and wiiware games.

I felt out of place cause i only had like 16 retail wii games.  everyone else seemed to be a lot higher.

The Wii is where I can bowl and do other waggle games I can't do elsewhere. I am tired of this push of core on the Wii talk. It is tiring. I broke down and bought Okami and No More Heroes. STOP HOUNDING ME! One man can only do so much. I also got the Goo game on the Wii that is supposed to be great.

And NO, I don't want to get Madworld. Sorry, the over the top violence isn't my thing (and I got No More Heroes, which is to amends for not getting Killer 7). Please take my taking Red Steel with No More Heroes is signs of my repenting seriously. And to show sincerity, I will say Red Steel is NOT horrible. And maybe I will get House of the Dead Overkill sometime to.

Now, stop with what is core or not. Just play what you want. Can't we have the Wii as everyone's second system for more casual play and parties? Can it just be what it is, and not worry if it is core or not?

Please tell me you didn't have the audacity and the lack of pattern recognition to come into a thread wherein we are discussing different value appeals for different games, and then try to cross out items on someone else's list of good games as if they are deviating from an objective standard.

Please, oh please tell me I'm hallucinating.

theprof00, it was already hard to take you serious before, but with crossing out Radiant Dawn you have proved that your posts are absolutely worthless.

EDIT: That was probably a little bit too harsh. I see that you also crossed out SSBB, so you definitely aren't totally crazy.

He didn't mention that Mario Kart needed to be added either though.

In all seriousness...no, we can not. Calling for the system to only be used for casual play and parties would be doing all of us a huge disservice. Its ability to enhance even core (read: traditional) titles is incredible, and gaming itself will be retarded if more developers don't take the time to look into how the Wiimote can make gaming better.

And I'm not just talking about the obvious examples, such as how the Wiimote can make console FPS's control like a dream. If Konami had taken you up on your suggestion, we would never have Pro Evolution Soccer. If EA did as you call for, Tiger Woods would still be a "push button now" affair. If Sega had heeded you, light-gun games would be dead right now.

The simple fact of the matter is that the Wii is not an "either/or" proposition: it's meant to be for all gamers of all tastes, much like the DS is. It not only has introduced new genres and new blood into our hobby, but it can revitalize and revolutionize many of the tired old ones, if developers apply some thought and creativity.

So while I heartily heed your call to just play what interests you, regardless of genre or targeted demographic, I must fervently disagree with you about not wanting more core games on the system. I want to have my cake and eat it too. (I'm a greedy mo-fo that way.)

Now, having said all that, I apologize for wasting many words on what is a small sidebar of your main argument. And for what it's worth, I agree with your overall sentiment. I'd relate it to the OP's argument, but over a hundred posts later I'm still not sure what that is if there is one, so...

What the hell is wrong with Brawl and Fire Emblem? Why are they excluded?

EDIT: Same thing to Madworld.

You can say the wii sucks, the games suck etc.

The best selling games are on the wii, the wii is the best selling console and people buy wii accesories like crazy.

Stats don't lie.

If the Wii "sucks" and the games for wii "suck" then why are people buying them?

You may not like the wii but apparently 50 million people do.
