Forums - General - I'm watching Al Gores 'An inconvenient truth'

It's very interesting, I've always wanted to see it, but only just got round to it lol.

Some of the stuff he is talking about is pretty worrying. I know abut the obvious stuff like Europe freezing because the great coveyor belt will stop and the snow cap melting because a 1 degree increase at the equator causes a 12 degree increase at the poles.

But some of it is very surprising.

I can recomend watching it.

oh, i missed that, i hope its on C4's catch up website

I never got to see it. It won an Academy Award, so I will most likely get around to it at some point.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I found some parts quite funny. He is moaning about wastage, but he flies his own private jet around, and also drives a 4by4, he just wants to have some friends.

The problem is that much of it is just wrong

I really like that movie, my favorite part was when they showed the clip from futurama. (the one about global warming, Robot pollution)

When does he mention the other planets heating up, and how those are our fault too?

When does he go into the fact that if Carbon Credits become required he will become one of the richest men in the world (if not the richest)?

Yeah, I think I saw that movie. And I agree with a lot of other people when they mention how retarded it is.

That movie is nothing but scare tactics. The conclusions it draws are from:

1) simulations of what might occur if the current warming trend continues. (but might not; observe our ability to predict what the weather will be like in a single city tomorrow and then say we can accurately predict the entire planet's climate decades in the future.)

2) Debatable conclusions drawn from legitimate scientific data. (The data is all the same, but you can interpret it in many, many different ways. Just because the majority of people say one conclusion is correct does not make it so. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humorism )

3) Flat-out wrong. (not very much of this category, but there are a few cases of it)

For the record, I do think that global warming has a serious potential to cause major problems to Earth's ecosystem, but this movie is just crap.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

when does he mention the fact that the same scientists that predict global warming predicted global cooling for the exact same reasons in the 70s..

When does he ever mention that water vapor is the most abundant green house gas and that carbon dioxide is actually a trace gas and humans are only responsible for .02% of that..

When does he mention that our planet has gone through radical climate before we were even here and will continue to do so long after were gone

I HATE him...
