Why you should be neglected? Just because more of the games are aimed to a general audience doesn't mean you can't/shouldn't play them! Keep those hardcore traumas out and enjoy the new generation.

Pick up a Game Cube controller and play Wind Waker, you might like that particular Zelda better, don't get fooled by the cartoony looks.

I agree with the other posters. First Mario game? Didn't all the past generations of gaming and the popularity and high expectations put on the Mario franchise tell you anything? Wow. I'm actually sad over this.

I might as well make a suggestion or two. Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, and Super Mario Brothers 3.

Oh really. wow. I feel for you. I don't know about Yoshi's Island, which is my favorite of the Mario series, but the rest are on the Virtual Console.

Also, I didn't like Twilight Princess either, if that is what you were referring to, but you should definitely check out Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. Thats on VC too. Also Super Metroid.

StarFox 64 is also pretty amazing.  Link to the Past was the first Zelda game to really propel the series forward.  StarFox 64 did about the same for the StarFox series, but then it kinda flatlined.

And at some point, you need to play through Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.  As a gamer, you really should.  And if you like that, try Majora's Mask.  That's my favorite Zelda.
