Forums - Gaming - Where will the remaining big JRPGs go? An overview.

KH3 is the only one that will be tough to guess, but I will say the Wii, even though I would like it to come to the PS3. I think the other 2 will be either PS3 exclusive or HD multiplat

Kingdom Hearts 3, I've changed my mind about. I now think it is going to the Wii and is not going to be developed by the usual KH team. Instead a new team will be formed (or another existing one used) with Nomura in charge.

- Kingdom Hearts 3, on the Wii, with some Pixar and some Nintendo worlds/characters, launched some time in 2010/early 2011 just makes too much sense. If needed, SE should cancel/freez Versus XIII in order to launch KH3 this gen.

Suikoden 6, will very likely not be coming to consoles. If it will, then it's the Wii. As the sales of last entries showed, Suikoden is extremely weak series.

SMT is strong in Japan, and pretty much non-existant outside of it. However it was announced via Famitsu that Atlus is developing for 360. So I assume they have a multiplat SMT game, or maybe an exclusive SMT game for each HD console in development. Either way I expect Atlus to stay mainly on handhelds and Wii.

Rei, do you mean you really expect Mushroom Kingdom Hearts, so to speak?

What Rei suggested is the ONLY way KH3 will release this gen, the usual team will not be making it. Then one has to think logically and wonder how on earth Wada Nomura would let that happen, it is like Kojima saying he will not make the next flagship MGS game.........it's never going to happen.

If Versus released this year then fine it could happen but even that one will not release at best until 2010 in Japan. It can even be for Wii but development time for the game will still be very long, I would say at least 2 years. 2012 at best and that is if the KH team take no break, I just don't see KH3 this gen. That is of course if the usual team make the game which I am sure will be the case.

It must be noted that KH is not being wasted this gen, a game for the DS and PSP are in production. The franchise has not been milked to the point it can no longer stand without crutches which is only a good thing.

I think shin megami tensei will be exclusive to one of sony systems (ps3, psp) due to the fact they have pretty much only sold well upon there systems. KH3 is going to be multiplat (never really cared for the series myself) and will launch same day and date on the HD twins and a year later on wii (possibly on rails...just kidding). Versus should release before 13 due to the fact they really need to see how the series will sell in the west seeing how star ocean 4 flopped harder than I have ever seen a game flop. This is ofcourse my opinion :0)

Shin Megami Tensei - psp/ds/wii. Does anyone try even to think about ps360 games? really? most of Shin Megami Tensei games even on ps2 had problem to hit 200-300k mark so how stupid Atlus should be to make those games on ps360?

Barely  any JRPGs get above 200-300k, it's just the way of the genre.  Do you really think it's impossible to make a game that would be profitable at that level of sales?

on ps360? hell yeah. considering amount of content in SMT series(eg. Persona series) i doubt Atlus would have enough money and power to pull such risky project - it's just meant to fail on ps360 considering SMT is quite niche jrpg series and resources that are needed to make a hd game.

if they ported the exact graphics they do now and spruced it up slightly I really don't see how it could cost that much. What part of developing for the PS360 costs these ungodly amounts that you are assuming?

It's usually attributed to art assets, I think. Concept art, storyboarding, high resolution textures, high-polygon game models, what have you.

That and all that coding.

I think.
