When you say '+ High attach rate of JRPGs' for Shin Megami Tensei on 360, you are talking in Japan only right?

That's neither a plus or a negative as the console hasn't sold as many as the other consoles in Japan, so you'd be limiting your sales before you even released it. 200,000 on a 1million console is a bettern attach rate then 400,000 on a 3 million console but which is better?

Yes, Japan only. But that's the main market voor SMT anyways.

The positive about the attach rate is that the 360 has a very reliable JRPG-buying userbase. However the downside is that the userbase is rather small.

Yes, the main market where the least selling console is your main target market? That's not logical sense.

We haven't got anything to compare 360s reliable JRPG market to except White Knight Chronicles, a new game and new franchise. Star Ocean 4 has sold 200k or so in Japan on the 360, this is way down on Star Ocean 2 and 3 figures (both night on reaching a million or over world wide but Japan is it's main market) and less then a WKC on PS3 which has sold 340k. If SO4 was on Wii or PS3 it would have done better, there is no question.

Hmm, pie.

My only quibble here is that I don't know if Vesperia should rank that high in terms of bigness.

Agreed.

I agree with The Fury on the attach rate thing, attach rate don't mean much if a rival has a lower attach rate but still sells more actual copies.

Where ever it goes, i for one will follow. my best guess would be the PS3 or the PSP but thats just my opinion.

Why is the FFVII remake the real question here, especially when we don't have a clear sign that it's going to any of these systems?

FF7 Remake, if it ever happen, will be on DS. They already got the blocky 3D-ish system in place since FF3 remake.

It would be a waste on DS. besides that would be pretty low on the totem pole if/WHEN it is being remade.

Yes, but having a reliable audience means you can greatly reduce the risk in budgetting. You're almost guaranteed to sell 100k on 360. That means you can budget the game that way to break even on Japan and profit from any copies you sell in the West. Please note that I don't make conclusions here, only arguing reasons for each game on each system.

The real question is:

Where does the FF VII remake go?

Best guess: DS2 or PSP2. It certainly won't be any current gen console.

Wii: has the userbase to support it, but not the graphical capacities for a remake of SE's main franchise (they can't make it look worse than XIII obviously)
PS3: SE hasn't published a single game yet on PS3. Also userbase probably not enough for SE's most important franchise.
360: SE would never release its main franchise on a console that simply doesn't have any relationship with Final Fantasy, nor seems able to sell JRPGs in huge numbers.

If FF7 remake ever comes to a console instead of a handheld it must be the true new PS2: High install base and big software sales.

I dont really have much to add besides it will be extremely pleasing to be able to play KH3 and the next Suikoden on the 360. Good analysis.

Depends what you mean by reliable. The JRPGs that have been released on 360 in Japan are mostly big named ones or by big name companies but this reliable audience hasn't even been able to help a well established franchise like Star Ocean outsell an unknown new game.

100k on 1million, that's what 10% garrenteed, even 5% on Wii or PS3 is enough to ousell and make it a viable option to put a game on the systems over the 360.
