Forums - Sony - How is Sony Doing This?(game announcement, after game announcement)

Here's another fact for everyone in this thread: Sony's first parties just hit their stride. We are going to continue to hear more and more about their next projects and titles will just keep getting added to the list.

I personally can't wait to see what ICO has been doing since Shadow of the Colossus.

I thought MS said the 3rd party support for PS3 will be dead this year.

Has the merger helepedd them to save money and they are using the saved money on new games?

Still believing what MS says?

Maybe. Also, components price dropping, weak dollar meaning less profits or more losses in USA, but also components even cheaper than from the pure and simple normal cost reduction, and this applies WW, not only in USA. According to iSupply Sony was losing little more than $40 per console in October 2008 (so in EU already then they weren't losing anymore), so now they should be breaking even or even having a small profit. Another critical mass stage (20million units) reached. The pure and simple fact that whatever profit, even small, is welcome during a crisis, so if they have a reasonable probability that a title will profit, its development is still a sound investment.

Mars being PS3, PC exclusive... I thought I would never see the day when the PS3 was sharing its exclusives with the PC, that is what microsoft does.

Dont get me wrong though, I love it... I had a huge smile when I read about Mars, just because it wasnt also on the 360.

This sort of thing should have been happening a long time ago, It's amazing to think that developers can ignore other systems to embrace blu-ray, and the architecture the PS3 has to offer.
Pretty unique!

Oh, and what happened last week? GDC? You mean the game developers conference where tns of games get announced? No way that could have anything to do with the flood of PS3 announcements....

Dude on the fourth day Sony created PS3 from a rib of the PS2. It is going to own everyone. I am sure they have had money back logged and budgeted fro every year for the games to only to get bigger adn better. Wait until next year when it is full steam ahead like when the PS2 startd to rock them out!

I can't believe this is a real post.

in some cases X360 timed exclusivity is working in PS3's favour.

Like ninja gaiden 2 was like a full scale beta demo for X360 owners to work out all the problems for PS3 version. and add online co-op :P

Yeah, I know what you mean - like Virtua Fighter 5 being a full scale beta for PS3 owners to work out all the problems for the 360 version. and add online play?

Oh wait. PS3 version sold more than twice as many as the 360 version.

What was your point again?

Currently Playing:
Resistance 2 Co-op (anyone call for a Medic?)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PC)
F.E.A.R. (PC)

Currently Ignoring:
My 360 and Wii.

The a large number of those titles are multiplatform, others are ports of games that came out for the Xbox 360 long ago (akin to Eternal Sonata), some are tiny and insignificant and niche to the max (Katamari) and the only real acception to these rules are Mars (which looks OK, but doesnt look like a huge budget game by any stretch of the imagination), and Rachet and Clank, which will have been in development since Tools of Destruction was released, prior to Sony's financial troubles really beginning.

All in all, this is neither as costly for Sony or as beneficial to their game lineup as this thread implies.

Really? So they were working on Crack In Time whilst simultaneously creating Resistance 2 and Quest for Booty?

No.

On topic, PSP had a huge Japanese resurgence in 2008, hence all these Jap developers jumping behind it this year. PS3 also proved itself the breadwinner for some 3rd parties last year, so it's not being ignored anymore.

I must have missed something... Doesn't Sony announce a bunch of games every year? There's not really anything for this year that's more impressive than last years announcements, and even with the sales losses they suffer each year (the only console to do so), they have consistently announced at least a handful of decent games each year, early on. MS won't show their hand until at least E3.

you ahven't paid attention then.

Last couple of weeks (PS3 only,,,PSP is too much to name)

ninja gaiden sigma2

3 namco banadi games

tales of vesperia

New Origo game(lizard one)

mars

syberia 3

ratchet and clankc:crack in time

katamry

and some other games .

That's the type of releases that get you excited?  Half that list is just ports of somewhat mediocre 360 games.  That's not really a big deal, is it?

I think that things like God of War 3, Killzone, Resistance, and the like are much better announcements than "we're getting a port of the so-so Ninja Gaiden sequal...  but it will have one of the Dead or Alive chicks as a playable character!!  Also, the 'meh' tales game that came out last year!"

Sony has always gotten second hand third party releases, some with improved functionality (Oblivion with everything on it), some utterly broken slaps to the face (Orange Box)...  I hope that's not what we're supposed to be excited about here.

Believing in the PLAYSTATION®3......IS.......S_A_C_R_I_L_E_G_E

it just takes so god damn long for them to release those epic games though...

I'm waiting for FFXIII, Infamous, GOW III, and Heavy rain release.
