Forums - Sony - How is Sony Doing This?(game announcement, after game announcement)

Sorry to interrupt the sony self congratuatory love fest but reality needs to have representation in this thread and I'm gonna give it to you.

Fact - Sony is in trouble financially and they will be cutting/mering studios shortly. Much like microsoft did with Ensemble Studios

Fact - Developers do not care about blu-ray especially since it is on the console with the smallest user base and smallest software sales. Wii and the xbox 360 are the priority at this moment.

Fact - Ps3 is hard to program for which leads to fewer games and poor quality ports. The only way for sony to avoid this is by making first party games.

Fact - developers are growing impatient at sony's refusal to lower the price of the ps3.

Yes, the ps3 and psp have had several game announcements but these 2 systems are not moving much software. Even sony's own financial reports said their yearly profits willc be down due to lower than expected game sales.

Why would they start closing studios when the studios are one of the more profitable parts of SCE?  Out of their internal projects, only the NBA series probably lost money.

This is the same stuff people were saying at the end of last year.  SCE would be hit majorly by the redivisions, studios would be shut down, etc., but it never happened.

And your condescending tone isn't appreciated.

Btw, MS didn't close Ensemble Studios because they weren't profitable.  The Age series has sold over 20 million units lifetime, and Halo Wars is already the best selling console RTS ever.  Ensemble was closed because they focused primarily on a market that MS was straying away from.

Many titles are announced several times.

I must have missed something... Doesn't Sony announce a bunch of games every year? There's not really anything for this year that's more impressive than last years announcements, and even with the sales losses they suffer each year (the only console to do so), they have consistently announced at least a handful of decent games each year, early on. MS won't show their hand until at least E3.

you ahven't paid attention then.

Last couple of weeks (PS3 only,,,PSP is too much to name)

ninja gaiden sigma2

3 namco banadi games

tales of vesperia

New Origo game(lizard one)

mars

syberia 3

ratchet and clankc:crack in time

katamry

and some other games .

The a large number of those titles are multiplatform, others are ports of games that came out for the Xbox 360 long ago (akin to Eternal Sonata), some are tiny and insignificant and niche to the max (Katamari) and the only real acception to these rules are Mars (which looks OK, but doesnt look like a huge budget game by any stretch of the imagination), and Rachet and Clank, which will have been in development since Tools of Destruction was released, prior to Sony's financial troubles really beginning.

All in all, this is neither as costly for Sony or as beneficial to their game lineup as this thread implies.

A lot of the exclusives this year are 3rd party as opposed to the two years before.  I doubt they are bribing 3rd party developers MS-style.  I'm sure it has more to do with the 3rd party devs using the benefits of BD create games freely with no 9GB limit and not having to take a big of a risk now that the PS3 is above 20million.

LOL!  Your right!  Only Microsoft is the evil bastardly moneyhatter.  SIGH................

Had to fix a few things for you. That fourth one, I agree with. However, if you were just trying to educate the masses, REASONABLY, that would be one thing. Since you always post anti-Sony propaganda, it's hard to take ANYTHING you say seriously.

I think you are both wrong to an extent.

Both companies HAVE cut games due to tough financial times.

Most developers DO NOT care about Blu Ray, however I do believe the largest determining factors are still userbases and tie-rates.

The PS3's programing difficulties HAVE led to fewer games (Valve) AND poorer ports (tonnes of them).

I agree that developers are growing impatient, but dont feel much can be done.  Sony is between a rock and a hard place.

I bet most of those games will be better than your platformer GOTY banjo kazioo nuts and bolts ;)

but you are right MS has been announcing high budget games left and right .So it makes this list insignificant........NOT

BTW there are many PSP games that ahve been announced in the past 2 weeks aswell.

now if MGS5 is a ps3 exclusive...

Even the GC got some good 3rd party announcements. Fact is, even in the last couple ofweeks, which has been a good few weeks for PS3 announcements, the Wii has had much better games announced

Again, when did I say that Banjo Kazooie was the platforming game of the year?

With the one known exception of R&C and the possible exception of Mars, all of these titles are likely too be poor or have already been released on other platforms.  Even R&C has already seen a PS3 iteration (two).  The net system selling capacity of this list is close to zero, and the net contribution to library quality is limited.

And THAT is true regardless of whether Microsoft is brought into the equation.
