Forums - Sony - How is Sony Doing This?(game announcement, after game announcement)

Software for them is usually profitable with a few exceptions like heavenly sword or something. so they don't really have trouble finding money for it if its there main way to make money. look at how nintendo hit a profit during the gamecube era mario kart and smash bros sold sold crazy amounts.

I must have missed something... Doesn't Sony announce a bunch of games every year? There's not really anything for this year that's more impressive than last years announcements, and even with the sales losses they suffer each year (the only console to do so), they have consistently announced at least a handful of decent games each year, early on. MS won't show their hand until at least E3.

A lot of the exclusives this year are 3rd party as opposed to the two years before.  I doubt they are bribing 3rd party developers MS-style.  I'm sure it has more to do with the 3rd party devs using the benefits of BD create games freely with no 9GB limit and not having to take a big of a risk now that the PS3 is above 20million.

Or, unlike other gaming companies, Sony has been profitable over many many years. And ever since the release of the console, except for the first year. Sony has announced great games each and every year.. this is the 3rd year in a row that Sony has released great games. Hat trick! And '10 looks to be yet a 4th year with awesome titles. Whats that, Quad trick?!

and atelier rorona and dont forget the ps2 price cut. i hope is goes well for SONY this year and for the others consoles too. gaming FTW¡¡¡¡¡¡¡.

Mars being PS3, PC exclusive... I thought I would never see the day when the PS3 was sharing its exclusives with the PC, that is what microsoft does.

Dont get me wrong though, I love it... I had a huge smile when I read about Mars, just because it wasnt also on the 360.

This sort of thing should have been happening a long time ago, It's amazing to think that developers can ignore other systems to embrace blu-ray, and the architecture the PS3 has to offer.
Pretty unique!

Sorry to interrupt the sony self congratuatory love fest but reality needs to have representation in this thread and I'm gonna give it to you.

Fact - Sony is in trouble financially and they will be cutting/mering studios shortly. Much like microsoft did with Ensemble Studios

Fact - Developers do not care about blu-ray especially since it is on the console with the smallest user base and smallest software sales. Wii and the xbox 360 are the priority at this moment.

Fact - Ps3 is hard to program for which leads to fewer games and poor quality ports. The only way for sony to avoid this is by making first party games.

Fact - developers are growing impatient at sony's refusal to lower the price of the ps3.

Yes, the ps3 and psp have had several game announcements but these 2 systems are not moving much software. Even sony's own financial reports said their yearly profits willc be down due to lower than expected game sales.

All Sony needs to do is to prepare to overwhelm Microsoft at E3 2009, which will be somewhat challenging, but not impossible.
