Forums - Nintendo - wii can connect to internet just fine, but wiiconnect24 never works?

there is this problem i have been having for hwta seems like a few months.

i have been able to connect to the internet on my wii just fine since i got it.(i'm using the nintendo wi-fi usb connector, btw.) i can play games online (like in mario kart wii) and i can assess the wii shop channel.

the problem is when i try to get on anything that uses wiiconnect 24, such as the the weather, forcast, everybody votes, check mii out channels, as well as all the games i have that use it, it never works. it always says "the wiiconnect24 service is currently unvailable. please try again later" along with spitting out the error code 109106. i have input this code into the nintendo website, and it just talks about if you can't get the wii's internet connection set up. i ALREADY have the internet connection set up, and that has been running just fine. i remember wiiconnect24 working great at first, but lately, it's just craped out on me.

it's weird, because i still get some features of wiiconnect24 even though it claims it's not working. i still get messages from mariokart about new tournaments, ads from the nintendo channel, and a message from nintendo whenever theres a new wii update.

and yes, i have checked and re-checked, i always have wiiconnect24 on, and i have always on connection or whatever it's called on as well.

i'm just comfounded by this. can anybody help, please?

Probably have to enable it in the settings

EDIT: oops ,eamt try to upgrade firmware and then enable it again by turning if off then on.

Above I'm a proud Gran Turismo fan, not a Sony fanboy, and now a proud 360 owner, but sharing xbox live accts ATM

End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.

Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)

End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):

Wii: 81 mil  360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil

I'll bump this for you.

It sounds to me like you have done everything right. Maybe you should call Nintendo. The people I have talked to are always nice and try to be helpful.

Hopefully someone else will have an answer for you.

Is your Wii a launch Wii? In Wiki it states this..

"The initial firmware update caused some parts of the console to be inaccessible to a small portion of people who purchased the Wii at launch. Those Wii consoles received constant error codes.[4] for those users it was necessary to contact Nintendo's customer service to replace or repair the console"

You may need to agree to the user agreement still. It'll be under Options

i have done the user agreement thing as well. i even turned wiiconnect24 off, turned the system off, and agreed again, and it turned wiiconnect24 back on, but it's still doing the same thing.

i guess i'll try calling nintendo tomorrow, unless someone else has any ideas.

EDIT: i think i'll ask around on the troubleshooting forum on the official website some before calling nintendo.

Found this page. Not enough of a techie to know what exactly the solution they're talking about is, but it sounds like the same problem you have, so...

erm i don't think i'm connected to a proxy server (could someone elighten me to what that is?), so i don't think it'll help.

i was reading around on the troupleshooting forums, and i found a post from someone with the same problem that fixed it by *gulp* reformatting the system memory >..
