Forums - Nintendo - Reggie demands to know why RE5 and some other Capcom games aren't on Wii

I have a 360 and picked up RE5 and played it when I could, just finished it yesterday. There is a lot of great stuff, features in the game and the graphics look great. It's a lot of fun and I enjoyed playing through it and I know I'play again through it and try to earn more of the bonus items, etc. However, the fourth game is better, totally memorable to me. There were so many awesome moments that just stick out to me. RE5 didn't have that effect on me. It was just a really good game but not something that I'll talk about and tell people how great it was like I did with part 4.

When RE4:WE came out, it had been a while since I played the GC game. So when I played it, it was so memorable and fun playing through again. Both GC and Wii versions made me almost sad to see it end. When I beat RE5, it was just cool to see the ending and the only sad part to me was this game I had been excited for and waiting for didn't meet my expectations.

I'll come up with something better eventually...

I think Reggie should reserve all of his comments about what he really thinks about the industry to april fools day, so that afterwards, after he's gotten everything off his chest, Nintendo can brush it off and say "haha, fooled you! as if Reggie is like that!"

I find it interesting that most of the people I know who have played Resident Evil 5 agree with the review from Zero Punctuation that Resident Evil 5 is a shorter version of Resident Evil 4 where all the "Improvements" to the game made the game worse. If the Wii can't "Handle" Resident Evil 5 maybe it can get a sequel to the superior Resident Evil 4.

The Gameplay is almost exactly the same as RE 4. The difference is that RE5 has co-op, post Gamecube era graphics and the "girl" in the the game actually kicks ass instead of just geting kidnapped and whining "Help me Leon!".

The difference for haters is clear. "It's not on Wii so we hate it".

I (personally) haven't played it yet because I have a couple of games in my library I want to complete before I buy a new game.

The biggest Sony fan I know in real life makes the same claims about the PS3 version of Resident Evil 5 vs the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4 ... Being that he really dislikes what the Wii represents is his dislike of the game because it isn't on the Wii?

Going from RE4 to RE5 felt a lot like going from REmake to RE0 to me. It feels like a very formulaic and uninspired sequel, it's very much like the last game, and the things that are different aren't necessarily an improvement. It certainly isn't bad, but it almost feels like taking a small step back, which is disappointing in a sequel.

On top of that, a lot of the things that annoyed me in RE4 are actually MORE annoying in RE5. Picking up items and using special melee attacks are still on the same button (at least on the Type A setting), and items still override attacks. You think it wouldn’t be too hard to code it where the attack takes priority over items. On top of that, you character now picks up items in real time, meaning the enemy will recover as you pick up the item, where in RE4 items paused the game, meaning you come back to exactly when you went for the item.

Aiming still feels slow like the Cube version, and the bigger environments make it more difficult to see where exactly you’re aiming since the laser pointer only shows a dot on things relatively near-by. The Mercenaries mode also suffers from the bigger environments since the same amount of enemies are more spread out. It’s fairly common to lose a combo simply because no one is left to kill near-by, something that very rarely happened to me on the cube version.

Sheva’s A.I. is very inconsistent. On attack mode I’ve seen her run around collecting items and ignore me dying, do nothing of use, run out and get killed, and when I’m lucky aim bot the shit out of everyone. On cover she’ll generally just stay glued to your back and occasionally shooting things that injure you. Except Reapers, she’s happy to do nothing and watch them one hit kill you. Enemy A.I. doesn’t fair much better, they generally shamble around and occasionally attack, sometimes in the wrong direction.

The bosses are the worst part, they generally look and play completely uninspired, and many of them are fairly technical if you don’t have a rocket launcher handy. The most disappointing one for me was there’s a new El Gigante, but you fight him with a machine gun turret attached to a car that’s not moving. In Resident Evil 4 is was pretty cool when you first run into El Gigante and the cutscene ends and you realize you’re suppose to simply fight thim, they don’t toss you anything. (Cept maybe that dog) But here in the sequel the same kind of enemy is now reduced to a turret shooting segment.

Co-op can make it a decent off-beat action game, but it feels fairly weak for a Resident Evil title to me.

Reggie is becoming too arrogant. I'm starting to dislike him, even though I can't stay mad at him for too long.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

It's not that he's arrogant, it's a valid question, people think he's cocky but he's really not. there is no reason to have a price drop on Wii for example, he shouldn't have to explain why, because the better question is why do people think Nintendo should do it because I don't see why myself if it's selling like hot cakes, the man goes right to the point, it's more aggressiveness than arrogance(or being cocky) by far, the man wastes no time. The simple truth is Capcom hasn't provided the same effort to the Wii as a whole and it shows, no matter how many anti-Wii people there are, it still is the leading console of this gen after all. Then again, you could argue that Capcom hasn't been showing the same effort towards making games in general lately, but that's just my 2 cents.

Just imagine RE5 with these graphics.

I think the ole Wii could handle it.

I am pretty sure it wont happen. But there is soo much hate that it ROCKS!!!

I cant fault reggie for speaking out because he needs to "keep it real" for all of the people who still want to defend the wii as a typical videogame system in the historic sense.

But, as ive said in all of comments regarding the wii, the wii is where it is because of A) loyal "hardcore gamers" still in love with zelda, mario galaxy/brawl, metroid and wii fit, wi sports, wii ski, carnival games, wii play.

The fact of the matter is some companies make great games and have pride in graphics, physics, draw distance online functioning and their roots.....the wii may not offer that to all companies and their image. The Wii's image, for example, the pharmacists i work with in their mid 40's talking about how the wii is going to be pissed when they play the wii fit tonight because they havent been on in a month may be a catch 22 for Reggies feelings.

It seems nintendo tasted gold with wii sports, wii fit and the boom of the wii and success of carnival games and the such that now they may have to just deal with companies releasing ports of year old games to appease the minority of wii owners that give a shit about traditional games.

The wii, whether we, you (in a general sense) and Reggie like it or not has its own stigma now attached to wii sports, the pack in game, and wii fit etc. Now theyre probably just going to have to deal with it. Im sure when their fiscal reports come out reggie behind closed doors isnt going to really give two shits about RE5 not being on the wii, but he needs to feed the angry hardcore that still want to cling to the fact the wii is a traditional system with traditional "hardcore" games. Thus we get this statement.

Sure, it may not hurt capcoms bottom line to release all of their games across the board, but sometimes i still think companies really like flexing their epeen and the wii simply does not allow it. Bottom line. it would be passable no doubt as exemplified in the RE4 port.

As a PS3 owner and fan of blockbuster games such as fallout, RE, killzone, halo, gears im very grateful that companies are sticking to their roots. The wii isnt for me and im very glad that companies arent sacrificing what makes me love videogames for the cash cow that is nintendo all the time.

HD consoles ( seeing how they both get games)  are still the leading one this gen.

Thing is the PS3 and the Xbox360 are close enough from each others that releasing a game on both is not a lot more expansive than releasing it only on one...

It's not on the Wii because Nintendo purposedly designed a system not easilly compatible with the other consoles and Regie knows it perfectly well...

Sure Capcom could probably trash the graphics and do a shitty port and then Wii owners would complain and Capcom image would be even more hurt. There's no win-win situation in those cases. You don't do a port, people bitch, you do a port they bitch too...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I never thought i'd say this and really mean it but, Reggie is the shit!!

I think there were a number of reasons why RE5 could and/or was not done on the wii but the biggest technical hurdle cited by the producer of the game was that Sheva's AI is just too advance for the wii.

I think Reggie had a similar outburst like this last year with Dead Space (and maybe some other games?), and now the wii is getting Dead Space: Extraction, and Capcom has already announced a new Resident Evil game for the wii.
