Forums - Nintendo - wtf? the wii has no ethernet port?

So I just bought my Wii yesterday having been enjoying play Super Mario Galaxy. I was in the mood to play some classics e.g. super mario 3. ocarina of time, Megaman2 etc. So i try and plug in my ethernet cable and im shocked to find out there is no ethernet port lol, so what do I do i have a standard modem meaning wired connection, Any advice much appreciated.

Also could you please recommend me some hidden gems on the gamecube, i want to start playing those games aswell. Much obliged.

LAN adapter?

LAN Adapters are pretty cheap. Check out a local game store or hardware store. Or wireless router buddy. Way of the future haha.

Lan Adapter cost me 30 bucks.

yeah there are several companies who make usb-to-ethernet adapters.
also a wireless g router is also pretty cheap

as for the gamecube:
try
Zelda: Windwaker
Battalion Wars
Super Smash Bros. Melee

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

LAN Adapters are really dodgy on a compatibility front from my prespective. One i bought that was supposed to be compatible according to a chart from WiiLi.org, but then came back no, so i have a $15 paperweight.

The ethernet port thing is definitely one of those "why the hell not?" things that went on with the Wii, probably the most significant feature that they could have painlessly added, but didn't (even more so than DVD playback, which we know at least costs a licensing fee)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

So if a get a usb adapter it should work?

granted these are semi stupid reasons but

1) size
2) they thought that the average consumer would rather do the simple setup of Wireless (which isn't so simple to some people, especially if they set up any security)

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

imo, forget the usb lan adapter for 30 beans and spring for a linksys wireless g router for 50.
