mine was final fantasy III (aka IV) for SNES .. For me I thought this was the best FF game mostly because its the only FF game where I shed a few tears.

I didnt bother with FFII or mystic quest as I heard those got dumbed down..

Final Fantasy III (US) is Final Fantasy VI , Final Fantasy II (US) is Final Fantasy IV

and i heard Mystic Quest is awful.

Mystic Quest isn't bad. It's just not as good as the rest of the series.

It's kind of cheezy, but it's still better than some of the SNES RPGs that were out...Maybe not as good as Square's other SNES efforts, but then again, what RPGs were?

My first FF was FFI for NES back in the early 90's.

Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls, (the first one).

I'm not positive which came first, but it was either Final Fantasy IV for my SNES or Final Fantasy Adventure for my GB.

I played VI first, and then IX, VII, VIII and V. Played IV but didn't finish it.
VII is still my favorite right up there with IX.

Edit: I've played X and XII, and finished them both. Don't know why I forgot to mention that.

FFVII, played at a friends' as I never owned a console until dec 2006 :)
