Gearbox use common sense. When konami says sold, they're referring to their sales, sales that go to retailers. Konami makes its money when they sell it to retailers, not when it is sold to the consumer.

That number is shipped and it's for the MGS franchise, not just MGS4.

Yep VGC doesn't like to admit mistakes :) Even if it requires them to belive there's 10M PS2 consoles sitting in magazines worldwide :D

Two things need to be mentioned

When they say sold, they mean Konami has sold that many copies to retailers.

Ie shipped.

And second of all, the person who wrote that article misinterpreted the satement from Konami - it was the entire MGS franchise that sold 4.5 m in 2008. Not MGS4

1. The 4.5 figure is for the whole series, not MGS4 alone. That includes The Essential Collection released in North America, the re-releases in Japan (I think they're still around), and the rest of the series if Konami still ships them. Anyway, my point is that it's not MGS4 alone.

2. When Konami says sold, they mean they've sold so many copies to retailers. That's basically the same as shipped to retailers. All in all, it's not the same 'sold to consumers' that VG Chartz tracks.

EDIT: It seems I was late... Should have read the topic before posting. Oh well, I suppose it'll be more clear now.

I funny how people jump on the "oh noes, not another topic like this" and still manage to create 4 pages of people explaining the same thing. "bla bla world wide, bla bla all MGS games". YOU'RE the ones in dire need of a Read Me thingy before you post.
