Have any new mature games been successful on the PS3 and Xbox360 or are they reliant on sequals and well established titles, COD4, GTA4, RE5, Halo3, Killzone2, Street fighter4 etc etc?

I'm wondering if the Wii is getting a much higher percentage of new titles than the other 2 consoles this generation.

New games rated M over 1 m for 360

Gears of war: 5.87
Assassins creed: 4.47
Bioshock: 2.15
Left 4 dead: 2.03
Mass effect: 2.02
Saints row: 1.94
Dead rising: 1.64
Crackdown: 1.48
Army of two: 1.45

Now how many of those are 3rd party exclusive non-shooters?

I don`t think gears and gta is adult games. I think those are some of the most childish games out there.

M rated does not mean adult, just means kids aren't the suggested audience.

M rated now means that kids or those under the defined age are prohibited from viewing the contents.

Using 'adult games' synonymously with 'M rated games' is very ignorant though.

M rated does not always define as fun... and no M rated games still DO sell to kids, sorry :)

@Linksaf

If that's at me, I'm not saying that the ESRB has an effect on the value of the game. That's another discussion. V_V

Jeez you guys, why can't you just accept that the demographics of the Wii don't cater as well to M-rated titles as the demographics of the 360 and PS3 do? It's not the end-of-the-gaming-world.

The Wii will continue to get a few "M" titles, because other factors will always motivate publishers to put those games on the Wii -- namely a market vacuum, and potentially lower dev costs.

The Wii will continue to get "M" rated titles... just not as many as the 360/PS3. There will never be a time when there are no available "M" games on the Wii (see above). It will also never have more "M" games than the HD consoles do (demographics). Oh well.

If you wanted scads of "M" games... you probably scored a PS360 already anyhow.

@Procrastinato

Software sells hardware because people want the software, it's not very ingenious but that's what it is.

If the Wii was to have loads of M rated games, then I'm certain this wouldn't change a thing.

The ESRB rating works against games not for them, placing M rating doesn't entice an audience, it cuts out all the people under the age of that rating.

But on the plus side you may have bumbled your way onto why HD games are so front loaded. ^_^

If someone sold your crap in a box and the ESRB rated it M, when you placed the game in a console it simply displayed Poop in 512 million vibrant colors, would you shell out $60 dollars for it?

If you say yes then your on your own buddy.

You're not going to be able to force demographics onto a console by spending zillions on making games for them, and hoping they show up. The Wii's "M" rated titles will never, ever outnumber the HDs.

It will still have them, because like I said, without them, there'd be a market vacuum, and thus, an opening. But it will never be as many. The demographics are not, and will never be there, unless MS gives up the competition for the living room, and Sony goes belly up.

Only the Wii's sheer numerical advantage even allows "M" games to succeed at all on it.  You don't like to hear it, but its true.  That said, "M" games can, do, and will succeed on the Wii for exactly that reason.  Numbers.  Perhaps not the reason some Wii fanboys hope for, but it still provides the smaller "not so casual" Wii owner crowd with "M" rated gaming.
