Forums - Microsoft - The Nextbox Speculation and Wish List Thread

I've noticed a couple other Xbox 720 prediction threads, but they all sem to focus primarily on system specs, and while I welcome people to discuss system specs in here as well, I'm more curious to find out what people think about possible software, launch price, bluray licensing, etc.

1. Launch Titles - I'll predict that if Rare doesn't announce a Perfect Dark game at E3 this year that The Nextbox will be getting a Perfect Dark game as a launch title.

2. Price - this is hard to guesstimate because no one knows what the economy will be like in 2011 (if that's when the nextbox launches), but I would have to assume that they have been taking notes this gen from Sony's failure and Nintendo's domination. Thus, I predict a basic unit for about $350 and an elite type model for about $450 USD.

3. Bluray - Next gen games will no doubt require much larger disck capacity than DvD can provide so I will predict that the nextbox will use Bluray discs to develope games on, although I doubt they will pay for the licensing to have the system play Bluray movies. It would be unnecessary anyway since Bluray movie players will be available for around $100 by then.

4. Motion Control - I think this is a given in some form or another.

5. Easy PC ports - There is no doubt that Microsoft would love to get their hands on some of that lucrative MMORPG pie, as well as an even larger portion of the FPS pie. Expect PC developers to be able to easily port to the Nextbox, and expect Microsoft to have a keyboard and mouse available to slap down on yoru coffee table to use for RTS and MMO games.

6. Wireless Connection - they'd have to be autistic not to include this

7. Wishes - My wish would be for a Bungie FPS at launch, but I won't hold my breath.

That's all I got. What do you guys think? Even if you don't have any opinions, what are your wishes?

My Wish List:

1. Games.

I'd say an opening price of $300-350 tops. If they do it right, they won't need to cut prices as soon. Just look at the Wii. 2 and a half years in and still no price cut while Sony and MS have both cut prices. I guess it kinda depends on the hardware the want to use in it, but really the only extra increase in cost I would see is Blu-Ray drive, Wi-Fi, and an upgraded CPU/GPU, and more RAM (hopefully around $200 added cost over the current $300 Pro, but in 3 years would equate to being about $300-350 to make instead of $500 like it would now). I'm not sure if SSD will be cheap enough by then to be included in any size that would actually matter. Perhaps in a year or two after the next xbox has been out they can introduce a model with SSD.

That would probably work, although 30gb may not even be big enough for Xbox 720 games...

Only time will tell I suppose, but I am assuming that before this gen is even over PS3 games will be eclipsing 30gb.

'' capacity is not a synonym for quality''..30 gb  is more than enough for xbox720.

30 gb HD DVD dish  DATA = 4 dish dvd9 of 8.5 gb,..

put ''blu ray'' on 720 is against the plans for ''digital downloads'' of microsoft.cop

Either a variety of control mechanisms, or one highly versatile controller. I'm thinking something along the lines of having a camera, a microphone for the room(not a headset) or in the controller, and a controller itself. Perhaps they'll ditch the controller entirely and just go with a motion sensing camera, but I don't think so.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Stripper factory and beer volcano please.

The reason I say online distro only is b/c while the majority of the US was dial-up and DSL, MSFT pushed broadband with the Xbox. They have the kahunas to push this.
