Forums - Nintendo - Is anyone else dissapointed by the Zelda announcment?

They REALLY missed the potential for a steampunk styled Zelda game. Oh what's that? A train? And everything else looks like every other Zelda game? Now you have a generic Zelda game that could have been a somewhat creative with steampunk influences. Derpppp.

The train is just going to be a boat that you can't control.

Oh wow this thread got brought up again. Hell i wasn't even gonna try to respond as it really was an opinion peice that 9/10 flat out disagreed with me, but yes I have played Phantom Hourglass, and I didn't like it. Also ever new zelda title has changed how it looks and plays almost every title, and this didn't change much from phantom hourglass, something i didn't like in the first place, and added a train, something that just looks like it was horrible to me. If many of you can have fun with it then yay, but personally I believe this is a huge letdown.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

I am dissapointed.

Because I'm unable to assimilate the idea that the Wind Waker visual is in fact a Zelda game. It feels completely different from the old and traditional style. Wind Waker should have been a independent franchise, but NOT ZELDA. Wind Waker, IMO splitted the Zelda series in two. This is what I feel now, to me, there's two type of Zelda games, the realistic style (OOT, MM, TP) and the toon visual (WW, PH and now ST).

Not to say Wind Waker and PH are bad games, but I can't feel they're Zelda games because, at least with me, they're completely different games.

Not sure how much clearer I can be, I do not like that style.  To compare to Wind Waker, I loved WW gameplay (though it was far too easy) and I actually enjoyed the sailing and exploring.  I thought the graphics for WW were amazing too, but the style was clearly aimed at young children.  As an adult it does not appeal to me at all, especially when there have been more adult style link universes in other games.

I won't play this new Zelda for the same reason I don't watch saturday morning cartoons.  It is aimed at young kids thus fails to keep my attention, in fact repelling it.

This is a bizarre thing to get hung up on.

I prefer more adult aimed things in some of my games.  Zelda one of them.

Not knocking the game at all, just does not appeal to me.

No, I do understand, that was also my initial reaction to Wind Waker - but I think there's a difference between being heavily stylized and being specifically aimed at young children. Wind Waker deals with issues of genocide, hatred of the gods, loss, and stabbing sons of bitches in the head. After playing the game for a certain amount of time it occurred to me that the game was no more necessarily aimed at children than Merrie Melodies, it was just given a veneer that was nonthreatening so that anyone could play it.

I'm not arguing the point, mind you - I'm just explaining my thought process on it. The game really is like Looney Tunes to me. Anybody can enjoy it, because it has elements for everyone, even if it is a cartoon.

I hate kiddy looking Zelda universe.

I do not mean 'child link', I mean kiddy looking.

I also prefer an older Link though, so this is a double dissapointment for me.  I won't buy it.

I do not understand this perspective at all. Please elaborate on it for me, if you don't mind, so that I may be illuminated.

You know how it is. Some people are all about the presentation. They don't eat delicious pate because it looks like dog crap or they buy a crappy Sunfire instead of a reliable Civic because the Sunfire looks sportier.

You really should have quoted my reply, but it shows why what you just said is wrong, so maybe not.

No, I think the pate metaphor in particular holds up rather well. You don't give a damn what it tastes (plays) like, because it looks like dog shit to you. The aesthetics are repellant, so the food never reaches your mouth.

It really doesn't matter whether you're complaining about the style or the resolution or whatever. You don't like the way it looks, so you won't touch it.
