Forums - Nintendo - 73 million sellers!!!

The problem with VGC (and to a lesser extent NPD) and this is purely my opinion cause I can't back it up with proof, is that they highly undertrack movie and casual games that sell well at Walmart and Toys R Us but sell terrible in VG stores or Best Buy.

Edge Magazine did a top 200 sellers for last year based on info from developers and it was chocked full of movie titles and others that according to this site were bombs.

Core games VGChartz tracks reasonably well. But it wouldn't surprise me if a game like Winter Sports broke 1m.

The number is clearly shipped, but there's a huge difference here that can not just be explained by the difference between shipped and sold. You go down to 73 on the wii list it is down at 700k. Nintendo claimed that 3rd parties sold more on wii than any other system, and i don't think this is actually backed up by vgchartz numbers either.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I have a feeling he was misheard or he mispoke/misread his lines.

IGN is quoting him as saying "75 million sellers". Eurogamer have him quoted as saying "Third-parties have sold more than 1 million games for Wii now".

Maybe he meant to say that 73 or 75 million units of 3rd party software has been sold in total? As opposed to 73/ 75 individual million sellers.

Yea, it may be 73m pieces of software in 2008?

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

That many? 0.o

I've got the Wii at 170 million pieces of software in 2008 according to VG Chartz, I'm not sure how much of that is Nintendo. Does anyone know?

Interesting thought. The 73 million sellers might not be real after all.

Well it seems impossible that it could jump from 30 third party million sellers by the end of December (which is still good)...to 73 million sellers in the space of 3 months.

No, it can't be 73m of software in 2008! I mean, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii and Brawl account for like half of that!

There will have been close to 200million software units sold in 2008.

-------

I suppose it could be what bluelave said, but only for USA?

I mean at the end of 2008 170 million units of Wii software had been shipped to the Americas....(from launch to Dec 31st--- includes Wii Sports) so it is feasable that 73 (or 75) million of those were 3rd party.

----

So it is either 73 million 3rd party software units to date in USA (by NPD) or 73 million 3rd party software units shipped to Americas.

I went over the database to find these extra 30 games that have shipped at least 1 million and I found quite alot,
But alot of these games are old and wont probably make it to a million, but expect a lot of million sellers for the wii coming up.

Also, EA probably shipped 1 million units for the last couple of Maddens.
