Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: DSi-only games on their way

Yea, I don't think we have to worry about Zelda being DSi only. This is likely for games/software that would benefit significantly from the camera.

Zelda will probably be a Hybrid for the DS and DSi; the DSi version will utilize the extra capabilities and features offered on the DSi system.

This is Nintendo's standard upgrade strategy. They always provide BC, such that, eventually, they can eliminate it (like the GBA slot was eliminated the DSi), but provide "partial upgrades" at every stage of the process.

The DSi will eventually replace the DS entirely, and DS games will give way to DSi/DS combo and then DSi-exclusive games only, if history teaches us anything.

I would be downright shocked if the Wii didn't follow a similar upgrade path, considering its evolution from the GameCube. Wii HD, using regular Wii discs with upscaling for standard Wii titles, and "use 720p and more texture memory" options for new "combo" titles? -- right up Nintendo Alley.

So the DSi is like the GBC according to history.

While Zelda is unlikely to be DSi only, it is VERY likely to be a DS/DSi combo game that looks a LOT better on the DSi than it does on the DS.

While on that Zelda note... lets say Nintendo announces a new Wii HD this year at E3 -- a Wii with 720p output, and faster internal chips/more memory (much like the DSi over the DS), and new "combo" discs for the Wii/WiiHD to both play (the game will autodetect your system type).

Right about then, we'll also see a new Wii version of Zelda announced. And guess what... it'll be one of the very first WiiHD/Wii combo discs, and will absolutely blow us away on the new HD Wii.

What better way to get people to upgrade, without upsetting their current userbase? Nintendo has done this for decades, and they turn a profit like clockwork. Its not a surprise anymore.

/facepalm

I wonder sometimes why some people like to make up some stories.... They need to discover a conspiracy everywhere?

There is absolutely no chance than Zelda will be a DSI exclusive. This is a idea which is that stupid.... that should not even be debated. People who thinks that are delusional and don't understand the reality.

The DSI is simply a new DS, not a new console (not enough change, that would be pointless). This is a new model, probably created only to test the market of download with the DSIshop. Nothing more.

Zelda will be availabe for all the DS. This is sure at 100%. Wait and see and you will find that people who says the contrary don"t understand how the things work.
