Forums - Nintendo - Do you still expect a Zelda Wii to be annouced this year?

trestres said:
I knew about that, but so far, what we know is that their primary focus is the DS game. I don't understand the point of this really. Just announce Zelda Wii once and for all. Stop killing Wii owners. I've been waiting for something major announcement since E3 2007, but all of them were for the DS. Plus NoA isnt localizing games anymore so we're practically screwed.

And is Nintendo really ignoring the current Wii situation in Japan? Without great games, Wii will keep on going down, and they don't seem to care. I'm very disappointed with their Wii offerings. I bet you DS owners are jumping on their feet, too bad portable gaming is not my thing. I wish Nintendo focused a bit more on the Wii, like announce something for their fans. Not asking for Zelda or Mario specifically, but announcing Zelda for the DS after having released the previous one there is BS.

@bolded: Are you seriously using that argument in conjunction with Zelda releases? If so, you're far more diluted than I ever thought possible. FYI, Zelda games come over to America and Europe, end of story. The localization issues are only with more niche titles that have questionable sales potential overseas. Zelda will never be a part of the questionable titles NOA and NOE bring over.

@Onyx: No no. I'm taking about the other games. Of course Zelda is going to be released everywhere, that's out of the question.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Hmm.. Announced, possibly. Can't be sure about that. I do think that this means that Zelda Wii is now a holiday 2010 game at the earliest, though. I don't see them putting two such titles too close together.

Historically, handheld and console Zeldas don't really rob sales from each other, at least not with a year's space - they actually give each other tiny boosts.

@Khuutra-That makes sense. It's hard to say at this point, but Spirit Tracks does not sound like the name they would give a prominent Zelda project and frankly it sounds more like a spinoff or side project. Did Nintendo specify what kind of game it'll be during the keynote?

Looks like a full game to me.

I stand corrected. That game looks awesome. I love the train traveling, but I wonder how that fits into the Wind Waker world. Maybe it's a new world/alternate dimension and just uses the same art style.

@trestres-Ok fair enough. Maybe save the localization bitching for topics that it might actually apply to then? Your reply was less about Zelda and more about Nintendo ranting than I find comfortable. Plus we've gone over the localization issues in topics past and unless it starts becomming an issue again with future titles, it's basically beating a dead horse at this point. BTW, I do fully agree with you the localization at Nintendo is abysmal, but it is what it is.

I think they'le announce later in the year BUT definitely not at E3 since the said they're only going to talk about business. They'le probably going to announce it at the tokyo game show as allways since they also said they're going to release info of all their upcomming game there from now on.

@bolded-I don't know this for a fact, that's why I'm asking. Can you link me to where Nintendo says the studio EAD 3 (Zelda studio) is split into handheld and home console teams?

I can't find a good source, but I know Aonuma has mentioned it. I guess you will just have to take my word for it.

It reminds me of the rumored steam-punk Zelda. This apparently takes place at a later time in the history of Hyrule than what we have previously seen.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

I was never a fan of wind waker style art. Wish they would find something else. But it should be a fun game non the less.

If this is going to come out in the late summer/fall in Japan, and for Cmas in America and Europe, then they could potentially announce Zelda Wii in the fall, for a Cmas 2010 release.

I was never really holding my breath for Zelda Wii hitting this year, but I do hope they have something big other than Sports Resort and M&S Winter Olympics.

DS is having a crazy software year with Pokemon, Zelda, DQ, GTA and WarioWare.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
