So Wait

FF1-ff6 is going on WiiWare?

We don't know which titles are coming yet, but that's as good a guess as any. It would be on the Virtual Console though, not Wii Ware. VC is for ports of games from older consoles. Wii Ware is for original games.

This is a really good strategy Square Enix is employing, and I agree with people earlier in this thread that mentioned getting some of these titles onto PSN and Xbox Live is another great earner with little cost to port.

So how many FF games are there that CAN be put on the VC? Unless they use the new SD Channel to open up how file sizes as Trillhouse suggests (that would be AWESOME, but I'm skeptical), we're limited to the cartridge console titles. How many are there? FF 1-6, Mystic Quest, and what else?

Woo, FF IV on VC. Finaly :)

As a side-note, I suspect that Square will purposely not release VC Final Fantasy's before they've already been re-made for the DS(assuming that particular version is going to be re-made), so as not to undercut the profitability of the re-make.

Mind you, they haven't announced V or VI for DS yet, so they might not even be panning to re-make them.

So what this means is we might see them release 1-4 over the next year or two but potentially hold off on V and VI if they were planning on re-making them for DS or PSP.

The only teeth strong enough to eat other teeth.

From what I saw in the liveblogging of the keynote outside of japan not all six are going to VC. Only two of them I think FFI and FFV.

How sure are you of that? From what I understood by reading joystiq, there would be six FF titles on VC, two of which for sure are the ones you mentioned, the others being still unknown.

You know, you'd think Square would realize after selling the first six Final Fantasy games for the upteenth time that maybe there's a reason people are still buying and praising them while looking down upon more recent incarnations.

That's all. However, there's other titles from the SNES that Square has rights to and can put up on the Virtual Console. The only one I'm fairly sure they will not put up is Chrono Trigger, and that is because they'ed prefer to sell that port on the DS for $40 instead of $8 over the VC. They might also not bother with the Dragon Quest titles they recently remade, but they may utilize some of the othersover VC to keep a fanbase going over Nintendo platforms in all areas.
