I'm not sure about this, but it seems to me VGC Japan numbers include some smaller asian markets aswell (Hong Kong, taiwan,..) . They are always a little bit higher than the cumulated sales of the official japanese sales trackers, although sometimes the weekly numbers are below those of one of the trackers.

2008: 324k

PS3 2008 sales dropped down below 10k at this point last year, so PS3 2009 should start to extend it's YoY increase, will it build enough of a lead to still be ahead when it catches up with MGS4's 77k opener though?

Hmm...only a 1k improvement doesn't seem like a whole much since the PS3 got quite a couple big games this year (or did the PS3 have some big games early last year too to push it in Japan? Don't remember.)

PS3 had Devil May Cry 4 and Ryū ga Gotoku Kenzan! last year.
