Forums - Gaming - Lenght VS Replay

I prefer replay, because a game can only be so long.

A game with a lot of content can last you way longer than a long game would. Games like Brawl and Pokemon GBA era I've put 900 hours + into. Or with Vesperia I'm at 160 hours right now.

Lengthy game with no replay value. I mostly don't like replaying games, so I prefer much more a lengthy game (hence why I like JRPGs)

Both. I like short and long games, as long as i can play them over and over.

Zelda is a great example. Long game that i like to play it over and over.

Great and Short with long replay like Diablo II.

You don't replay your RPG's? That kinda... what the genre is all about IMO.

Really?  I've never heard that before.  Could you explain?

Eh, no, in most RPGs you see everything in the first playthrough. Maybe those with multiple endings have replay value, but for example, why would I replay...say...Final Fantasy X? I saw everything I wanted to see in the first play. I replay some RPGs (I've won every Suikoden -except III, and that's 'cause I got all the stars in the first play- at least twice, I beat 2 four times), but that's not usual. Usually when I try to replay an RPG I get bored in the middle 'cause I already know the story.

Sure.

RPG's to me are about creating a fictional universe where you feel you're a part of -- something that just sucks you in and keeps you playing. That's why things like exploration, content, gameplay, and replay value are so important. I'd consider Pokemon to be the model JRPG which JRPG's should be based on. I know people like a good story, but that's so rare that I can't really call it a trademark for JRPG's. They make it feel like you're in a cartoon almost. that's what a JRPG is to me.

Short games with long replay value (i.e. Wii sports, Resident evil 4, House of the dead overkill)

3 of the worst possible examples of replay value?

why? <.<

Wii Sports is just the same thing over and over, if that has high replay vaue evrry game in existance does.  The other 2 when you replay the game you play the same levels with the same cutscenes and such over and over again.  Weapon upgrades are hardly replay value which is all I can imagine you mean.

I see real replay value as new modes/characters to unlock that will allow to do something different, or alternative paths to take, new cutscenes/story to find.  etc etc.

Wii sports are short sessions but there's always a reason to play them over and over again. Because you want to beak your ecord, play with friends (the most common) or because they are just plain fun.

House of the dead is a short game but you can always go back and perfect your score or skills. Like the arcade games.

Resident evil 4, once you finish it and know the game, you can finish it in 3 hours more or less. But you can alwayus go back to try a new route, a new weapon(s), to find the treasures, to use the costumes, etc.

That's replay value too of course but not exclusively. Normally short games are designed to pick and play many times but not all of them do them right.

I think the best example of replay value is Katamari Damacy (and the sequel of course), the game is short, but I literally played every stage a hundred times, few games lasted me longer, I wanted to perfect my score in every stage
