Forums - Sales - What will happen to the Wii if Freedom takes off?

What I wonder is if all the Wii bashers will stop using the word "waggle" and "gimmicky" now since they themselves will get if for their console of choice

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Don't people read others comments? Its not a pointing device, it won't work with shooters.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

absolutely nothing.

Hang on a moment. Doesn't the PS3 already have a motion sensing controller? Isn't it first party and included with every single PS3 sold?

Now if a first party motion sensing controller packed into every single console sold has virtually 0 impact on Wii sales...how the hell is a 3rd party rip off with limited sales potential and no major support going to impact Wii sales?

He's right, they made a camera deal last year, Israel i believe.

There are currently atleast 3 different versions of "new wiimote style controllers", whether its the ninja sword looking one or just a camera.

They will all fail. If you want a wiimote that has pointer control and physical movement tracking capability there is only one, because Nintendo copyrited and licensed this specific multiple function design, well you have no choice.

The "camera deal" is still in development. The one you saw from the booth was a prototype and was designed not for the 360 but for home use on your television/PC. Microsoft either bought the company or is financing some/all of the R&D on the concept. It is way way cooler than a motion control. I hope it lives up to its potential (not just for playing games)

You don't need major software support. You need a simple sport game and a simple racing game and a party/minigames title, in bundles. And lots of marketing.
For most customers of the "blue ocean" the Wii library consists of Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii and a couple of assorted party games. They could not care less of the motion control support in fighter games or Zelda games.
Look at the balance board+ wii fit. Did it come out of the box? No, but people want it so they are buying the game and peripheral.
Think of the motion plus. Why can't the very same thing be done on 360 and PS3 instead of the Wii?
It's all in the marketing, really.

The birdmen fallacy.

^Had to Google that, and I don't see how it applies.
Do you care to articulate that rehashed expression? Because your "out of the box/widely supported" argument didn't tread much water in the face of the balance board example.

^ True, but the prime market for fat, old, female, young was already existing because of Wii Sports. Nothing exists on the 360 or PS3 because the Wii took alot of the PS2's casual userbase.

You see the birds flying, you see they flap their wings, and so you think that if you have wings and flap them, you too can fly.

The "fallacy", although it's not a "logical fallacy" in the strictest sense, is that you've only done a superficial analysis, and you've ignored all the other birdmen who've jumped to their doom thinking the same thing already.
