Forums - Sales - What will happen to the Wii if Freedom takes off?

* Freedom is a motion sensor add on from a 3rd party being released for the Xbox 360 this fall and very likely the PS3 some months later.

I put this in the sales thread because the only possibly thing this add on can do to the Wii is steal some sales. I don't, I don't think anyone here does and I don't think Microsoft, Sony or the people making this expect a 3rd party delcine of games on the Wii. So lets not get in to that, this is more about sales.

Ok it may seem crazy something could knock the Wii off its purch, but this add on offers, basically the Wiis unique selling point, it all depends on the support "Freedom" gets, how well it sells ... well basically it stands more chance of failing than suceeding, but there is a chance, and a very big chance if all involved play their cards right, that this could take off.

A cheap add on to play HD Motion sensor gaming on the cheapest console in the market VS a remote packaged with the console itself to play Standard motion sensor games on a slightly more expensive console. On paper it looks good but that doesn't really mean anything as such.

Discuss!

you say that it has a better chance of failing than succeeding, but immediately after, you say that it has a very big chance of succeeding.. why?

Because I doubt "all involved" will try their best to make this suceed.

I predict some journalist will ask Iwata what Nintendo will do about this, and Iwata will laugh (but not in an obnoxious way).

 I predict the exact opposite.

Oyvoyvoyv predicts no journalist won't ask everyone but Iwata what Nintendo won't do about anything but this, and everyone but Iwata won't laugh (but in an obnoxious way)

(Sorry, had to)

wii has the name brand. I doubt this will seriously challange the wii

And before the Wii the Playstation had the name-brand.

I think there are still a lot of people who don't understand why the Wii sells.... it's not because of 1 single thing, it is the whole idea behind the Wii that denoted many things.

"The Wii sells because it's the cheapest"
"The Wii sells because it started the cheapest" (I can't believe I have seen people use this one, it sounds so stupid)
"The Wii sells because of motion controls" (Despite the same persons insistance that motion controls are shit)
"The Wii sells because it's kiddy"
"The Wii sells because it has the name brand" (It's has only existed for 2.5 years, any brand it has built up has been purely because people like it... IF the next Nintendo console uses the name "Wii" and it's sale startfast but drop quickly, then we can say it sold on brand power at least for launch)

None of those reasons are why the Wii sells, especially if you only use 1 of them.

Nothing.

3rd party peripherals don't change a console's fortunes.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

No, it stands more of a chance of failing than suceeding, no doubt about that, but if (like I said) the companys involved played their cards right) it stand a good chance of doing well. But like I also said fat chance of that ... so again it stands more chance of failing than suceeding.

In laymans terms it has potential.

I doubt it will kill the wii... Maybe if it was a pack-in... like Wii Play, LOOK AT THAT SELLER!
