I think they might just drop the ''solid'' part because Snake will be no longer the main protagonist.

The two aren't necessarily related. The original Metal Gear Solid was named so after the "solid" 3D graphics Kojima managed to produce with the PlayStation. Since then, there have been at least two games under the title "Metal Gear Solid" that have not had Solid Snake in the game.
However, I'm quite partial to the name Metal Gear: Raiden Gaiden.
I love the parts in MGS4 where Otocon makes a snide remark about the awesomeness that is Bluray and the power of the PS3. Or the fact that the game is completely littered with Apple and Sony material. Yea, that totally screamed it wanted to be MP/Sarcasm.
Kojima is a perfectionist, he wanted to create the biggest baddest game ever, only possible on the most powerful system. And he is a supporter of Sony to boot, a company that has always encouraged art in video games(FFVII, ICO, Patapon, GOWseries, SoTC, Flower, Heavenly Sword, etc), which is what Kojima is.....an artist.

I wouldnt be suprised if its a multiplat, or maybe a metal gear wii game?

Even today, almost 8 months since its release, MGS4 would become a million seller on 360.
I think the next version is likely to go multiplat because the opportunity for higher sales.
okay,
metal gear 4: 3.89M
metal gear 3: 4.02 M
What is obvious from these numbers is that the metal gear did not lose any of it's core fanbase by remaining a ps3 exclusive. so let me list the reasons remaining ps3 exclusive in the future is not a bad idea.
1. sales of mgs4 proves (regardless of the overall install base) that your fanbase already has access to your title.
2. metal gear isn't the type of game that appeals to an expanded/new audience. nobody read the 7th harry potter book without reading the first 6 and no one is going to play the 5th metal gear without playing the first 4.
3. metal gear is a cinematic heavy. yeah sure, you can do multiple discs on the 360 but production cost rise when you use 3,4, maybe even 5 discs.
4. sony heavily promotes the title. going multiplat means losing all that free advertising sony will give the title as an exclusive. and everything i've read suggest the advertising cost can be just as costly as development costs.
kitler laying down the wisdom in this thread^^
