okay,

metal gear 4: 3.89M
metal gear 3: 4.02 M

What is obvious from these numbers is that the metal gear did not lose any of it's core fanbase by remaining a ps3 exclusive. so let me list the reasons remaining ps3 exclusive in the future is not a bad idea.

1. sales of mgs4 proves (regardless of the overall install base) that your fanbase already has access to your title.

2. metal gear isn't the type of game that appeals to an expanded/new audience. nobody read the 7th harry potter book without reading the first 6 and no one is going to play the 5th metal gear without playing the first 4.

3. metal gear is a cinematic heavy. yeah sure, you can do multiple discs on the 360 but production cost rise when you use 3,4, maybe even 5 discs.

4. sony heavily promotes the title. going multiplat means losing all that free advertising sony will give the title as an exclusive. and everything i've read suggest the advertising cost can be just as costly as development costs.
