Forums - Microsoft - GDC 09 : Making games with KODU

The XNA Community Games program was launched with much fanfare and ballyhoo. Microsoft touted it as bringing game development to the masses. There was just one problem for most people: to make an XNA game, you have to know how to program, which isn't exactly everyone's cup of tea. Kodu solves that problem by turning all of the coding, from placing objects to assigning behaviors, into a visual, intuitive process.

In creating Kodu, Microsoft has made the most powerful tool around for easily learning and understanding entry-level game design and coding. It's no stretch of the imagination to envision Kodu being used in an elementary school curriculum to give students a jump start on learning the basics of programming without any of the jargon that can be such a turn-off.

There aren't a ton of game objects, but there are near infinite ways to make them behave.

This is a great idea, the gaming industry (to me) seems to be one of the most difficult to get into, in my country the first chance you get to learn for it is at university (as far as I know)

Just think of all the teenagers at school that would pick Game design over drama or french, and just think how much this would help.

@seece

wow that would be so cool if they had 360's with this in school & then have that as an optional DT (Desight Technology) subject!

EDIT:

GREAT find selnor!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

It's funny that we have resorted to this. I remember a time when c++ and visual basic were going to remove the difficulty of programming and jargon.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Is there any word on a release date for this yet??
