well, Nintendo needs to come up wiht a solution none the less. especially since DLC is becoming the future.

also....what is DRM ......D R Memory

I say utitlize the USB, but they won't do that unless they have their own hard drive to sell you

DRM is digital rights management.  Basically, it's where publishers take away your basic rights to copy, etc...

Which in this case would limit your ability to pirate and distribute their wares.

While I'm a gainst most DRM use because most content providers fail to utilize it properly, I'm not against the basic pricniple.  A DRM that allows you to transfer files between your SD card and Wii internal storage is all you need to start with.  Save files could be granted less strict DRM so they can be taken to a friends house for use.

A USB HDD solution would not have this kind of protection for content providers and would be at the mercy of rampant priacy that rivals PC gaming.  Certainly not something Nintendo wants themselves and 3rd parties to deal with.

Hard drives defeat the purpose of consoles.

Buggy games released with a promise to be patched. Boot-up times. Noise. Heat.

If that's what you want get a PC.  The only thing I wish Wii had was SDHC support for more saves & vc games.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

512 is enough for everything you're currently playing. The rest is fluff.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

@frybread
So if the next nintendo console comes with a HDD I guess you won't be getting one - or any console for that matter. Afterall it defeats the purpose of consoles.

@Viper
Simply don't use it.

i say within a year the Wii will get hacked to allow you to replace the dvd drive with a hard drive :D

What sort of technological oddity is this?

I've never known a HDD to allow the insertion of a physical optical medium before.  Can you tell me how this works?

The only reasoning behind something like that I could think of is not actually physically swapping drives... but perhaps to use a HDD to store the games on so you don't have to physically insert them... Kind of like Wii demo pods.

Either that or MatAAron doesn't understand what he is talking about.

 The way it works is that you connect this device in the same connector as the dvd drive and then you stream all games from yuor harddrive on your pc.

They never said a hard disk is coming. A 4Gig SD card is *8x* the internal memory of a Wii - effectively giving it a 10x boost in internal memory. That would do me...
