Forums - Sales - UK: Chinatown Wars sales only half of VCS PSP sales, RE5 still number one

I now need an M - rated game. Right, they barely exist(Nintendo hasn't made one, so you don't need that condition). They've all been spin-offs or the extra little multiplatform game for something like CoD. The best selling of which is CoD at half a million.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Why is this 2 day excuse even used? Doesn't every game launch on Friday in UK? That's a bull-shit excuse.

I hope you weren't the one of the folks using the same excuse for Killzone 2's NPD numbers then...

And to everyone else, so what GTA:CTW sold less then the PSP versions in its opening week/days.  It'll have legs.  Yeah, the Sony/PSP fanboys will throw it in your face, but it's one of the very few, miniscule "victories" they could ever hope to have.

So people predict that it will outsell GTA VCS, when no game of its kind released on the platform and sold less that VCS in the others territory, which happeneds to be the largest selling territory for GTA portable games.

Okay, week 2 sales will be key. And considering the Holiday season is already over (Both PSP versions released a month before the Holiday season), we won't see any boost whatsoever from Chinatown Wars. Yeah, it should reach Vice City Stories sales, in three years.

Fanboys have nothing to do with this. Take that shit somewhere else. I can see why people left this site.

And the "It'll have legs" part. Are you hoping it will have legs, or do you have a comparison that actually makes sense? Throwing Nintendo titles around and saying "thats why it will have legs" makes no sense at all. I'm trying to find parallels between GTA Chinatown Wars and another game of its type. Since we can't, the only thing left to do is to make pointless comparisons or worse, hope it will have legs.

No matter the legs or no legs, the game sold horribly at first.

Yep, if theres anything we can agree on, its that 15k in the UK for ANY GTA title is piss poor, legs or not.

I'll agree it's pretty weak opening. But this game had very little pre-release hype. It's only after the reviews started coming in that people got interested.

At any rate, we'll have to wait a few more weeks to see how it's legs are.

Rockstar themselves have been talking about this game "creating a new market". How many games that create a new market sell out on their first week? Did Brain Training? Maybe you can call that marketing spin, but it's obviously their intent. This thread has already shown there isn't a market for M-rated games on DS yet, it has to be created.

How 'bout you take the internet bravado somewhere esle.  What I said above (which you bolded) is true - hence your frustration.  Don't let my posts get you so worked up... it's really not that serious.

Anyways, legs are typical for many DS games - which is why myself and others are confident it'll have legs.  You may be right though, it may not... though that's highly unlikely for a brand as big as GTA.
