There is no way this game cost more then 20-30 million dollars to make. I mean I love it and all, but it certainly wasn't a break the bank blowout game.

If it sells 500k its certainly profitable and there will probably be a sequel of some sort. Most JRPGs sell less then that and many of the series are on their 5th iteration (look at Tales, that series never sells that well and yet they keep on making them).

500K as profitable for a 20-30 million dollar game would seemingly go against what devlopers are stating.

I thought it was a cheap game too until Outlawaren told me they created a whole new engine for it.

Yes, but the engine are not directly attributed to the game if the engine will be used for other games. Then it would go to basic R&D.

Much like with Gears 1, where the bulk of the cost (Unreal Engine 3) wasn't included in the budget b/c it was used for many other things.

@ Bitmap

Thank you.

Its DONE VERY WELL for an SRPG

Its outsold TOV worlwide

Vesperia hasn't been released in Europe yet. Just saying. Not to dispute that Valkyria sold ok, not very well. Fire Emblem sold very well.

No it hasn't. Radiant Dawn is only 30k ahead of Valkyria before adjustments.

Realistically, that's 50/60k with these new numbers.

For a new SRPG it did pretty well. And it's get DLC + an anime and an artbook and such. They're trying to promote it as much as they can.

I don't think it should get a sequel/prequel yet though, Overworks should make a new action RPG. Then they can decide if they want do a VC2 or a SoA2 or something.

I could see them doing a spin off or something on the PSP or DS.

Maybe if stores had it in stock :(, I had to look for it in 5 different places before I found it, and it wasn't even on the shelf, it was in the back room. One of the places even told me it was discontinued.

Eh...I sorta doubt that. Could happen, don't know. I think they'd just make a new game...

But why invest so much into the franchise without exploring it?

Another reason why I have very little faith in humanity...

4 ≈ One

I'm playing it now ... the game is very solid in every way.
These numbers are sad for every JRPG player.

Uber good game, not many people know about it you know. Its way to underrated atm, give it some commercials or something. Screw the numbers, just enjoy the game, your to busy with numbers.

2 reasons for 360 sales.

Cheap arcade version, wich the mom buys for the kids.

And microsoft's wallet.

But the PS3 is a JRPG beast. ALL JRPGS WILL SELL A MILLION ON THE PS3.

Time to port to the 360!

So all those hardcore JRPG fans that have a 360 can give Valk their support so it can sell Tales of Vesperia numbers?  Oh wait that would be less...

So you think Sega would lose money on a finished game that reached TOV sales? Do you see the stupid in your post?
