Forums - Microsoft - Is the 360 the jRPG machine this generation?

What do you mean by "be behind"? I haven't seen a single advancement in RPGs past the PSOne days(which is where the hardware of the DS is at) that can't merely be replicated on the DS. Give me one single advancement since the PSOne days that the DS simply can't handle. For every one you give me, I'll give you something the touch screen and dual screens have added to the experience making the triumphs of DS RPGs far above what the 360 or PS3 could give RPGs.

What about sheer size? How much data can the DS cards hold?

At the time of PSOne there were RPGs on 4 cds ie about 2.5 GB

Both brought many interesting new features, Wii can bring as much innovation as ds in the matter of Gameplay. But what i'm saying is that processing power DS can't give to games, i've already played very interesting games on DS, i just love The World Ends With You(really funny) and this game was just possible with DS. But see other case, FFIV DS, the Touch Screen just added nothing to the game than a few minigames, processing power could have done more to this game than touch screen or motion sense.

What I'm trying to say is, depending on the game the Director of the game want to make HD is the right way to go, HD will add much more to FF than Wiimote.

The true sin of this gen is that ps360 don't have motion capture and PSP don't touch screen, putting everything together, processing power and motion capture, dev would be able to make outstanding games.

You still haven't told me what processing power has given RPGs though since the PSOne days. What have we gained? We still have the same variations of turn-based combat. We have the same linear stories. In fact a lot of people would say outside of a gem or two, the stories have only gotten worse. We have the same town layouts full of meaningless houses to hop into for no reason, plus an armor, weapons and potion shop plus an Inn that have some use. In fact the only real thing I've seen change in RPGs in the last ten years is now we have voice acting. That's really it.

Now do I really need to run down the innovations provided by the DS to RPGs? And no the Wii cannot replicate all of them.

I think JRPG's need to go multiplatform this gen.

I know that PSP and DS have much more jrpgs than 360, but for home consoles, is 360 the jrpg choice this gen?

All the money spended developing jrpg crowd for 360 or they still waiting for ps3 ports?

I don't understand about people complaing about making jrpg for 360, if they have the money why they don't just go and buy a 360 to play the games they like? It's just like saying that if a movie that really want to watch aren't showed in my favourite channel i just won't watch it.

agree,,...But,the  fanaticism is a ''disease''....

Is the 360 the jRPG machine this generation?

in quantity? yes

in QUALITY? NO

It's real simple, all these companies are going 360 because of the bribes.

And FYI, JRPG's broke into the western market 12 years ago when FFVII hit the U.S. If that's their excuse for this crap, then that's lame.

No. Maybe at the moment, but the end of this generation will see JRPGs spread across all platforms.

I mean, you can probably count on one hand the number of JRPGs that were NOT released on the PS1 in it's generation. Ditto with the PS2 generation.

I really doubt any of the three consoles will be able to make that claim when the next generation starts.

EDIT:  In fact, the JRPG discrepency probably goes all the way back to the NES/SNES.  How many JRPGs were released for the Genesis outside of Phantasy Star?

Nope not in my opinion. i have always been a quality over quantity person myself, even though i do prefer both at the same time :)

With that being said the ps3>>>>>>360 for jrpg's this gen

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Well if your game collection is any indication you really don't have much opinion on any console's JRPGs. Is it updated?
