Forums - Sales - Can PS3 outsell the Wii in Japan in 2009?

No, but it'll be slightly closer than usual.

Some interesting stuff to note is that PS3 has seen many announcements this past months, while the Wii none. Atelier, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Gundam, Summon Night 5, BlazBlue, Dead Rising 2, Quantum Theory. Wii needs more announcements, I thought that devs were going to shift attention this year, but so far, the year brought no new announcements, not even from Nintendo themselves.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

It is difficult. As many of you have said, Wii have for this year in Japan some games with a big potential. If Sony after launching the PS3 pack with Advent Children + FFXIII demo makes a pricecut they could maintain PS3 sales above the normal rate.
Again, we must not forget that Wii has WiiSportsResort, Monster Hunter G, Monster Hunter 3, Tales of 10, Musarama, Samurai Warriors 3, kizuna.... and very posible a new Kirby and Pikmin 3. It is also posible that FF:CB is launched in the holiday season in Japan.
So it means that Nintendo and Sony will have to fight strongly to maintain the leadership, what are great news!

What if they release Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean this summer for the PS3? We all know that they will come, but the answer is when.

Ports of older games wouldn't help a lot. I mean we aren't seeing the 360 outsell the Wii a lot even with those games.

And by Summer? They would've been already announced for it if they were going to come in Summer, but Namco/SE don't have any plans for any ports right now.

What about Resident Evil 4 and Tales of Symphonia back then for the PS2? The PS2 version for ToS was anounced in April 2004, and released in the summer of 2004, and they just announced Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the PS3, and we are going to see it in the next 5 months. Atelier isn´t a port, but it´s a decent game and it´s been announced 3 months before the actual release.

nope, not a chance in hell. ps3 will do better than 2008, but will lose by alot in 2009 against the wii.

no ,...wii rules in japan ,usa and the .???????????????????????'

Not really, especially this year in Japan.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^
For SO4, they haven't even ported the engine and have no plans so there's no way it'll be out in Summer or something. And Eternal Sonata on the PS3 came out over a year after ES on the 360 for a Namco game. Team Symphonia said they weren't doing anything right now and they'd be the ones porting over ToV but they have no plans about that whatsoever. NGS2...we're hearing about that 9 months after NG2 released on the 360.
Because Tri-Ace and Namco say so, you believe it? They are probably waiting till the exclusivity contract ends and because they would kill a lot of potential Xbox 360 hardware sales if they did announce those game’s to soon, and I’m sure ToV one will expire 31 march when the fiscal year ends. The question is if Microsoft did buy the exclusivity of SO4 for the 1 Ap0.r 2008-31 mar. 2009 period or 1 apr. 2009-31 march 2010 period.

The development of those games probably even started on the PS3, although we will never know for sure.
