here is proof (according to VGChatz) of how well FF games sold on Sony systems. I have also added the first week of sales for JAPAN ONLY!.

Now what chances have M$ got of outselling the PS3 version WW when the PS3 will ce much cheaper by then, Japan exclusivity and always + 1.5M first week in Japan!
Mathematics says it can't!

I see a  downward  trend here regarding FF games ltd sales. So the series peaked with FFVII and it has dropped like a lead weight. FFXIII on PS3 should be lucky to break 5 million copies ltd. X360 version of FFXIII (No Japan sales) will be lucky to reach 3 million sales ltd. So in total FFXIII will sell around 7 to 8 million on PS360.

Japan sells between 1.5m to 2.5m copies ltd of any given FF game - around 30% of total FF game sales are from Japan.

The games aren't in chronological order mate! they are in order of sales starting from the most to the least. 

Surely only talking about NA sales...

unless I'm really bad at math isn't 900,000 more then 700,000? It looks like RE5 is selling better WW on PS3 and that's an action game (far more in line with MS's demographic of Western gamerboy types). Does MS really think that they have a chance on a non action game to sell more, particularly when half the sales will likely come from Japan where FFXIII isn't even on the 360 at all?

Boggles the mind.

There are a lot more Final Fantasy games, so comparing total sales is not really the way to go about it. The best selling GTAs simply annihilate the best selling Final Fantasies.

They were responding to NPD. We know which region NPD covers, don't we? 

saying we sell the most in one region or one other tiny submarket is pretty much meaningless. In fact selling the most in America only is extra meaningless considering a sale in America is worth only about 60-70% a sale in Europe or Japan due to the weak (and weakening now that we put trillions of printed money into the economy) dollar.

EA and others make more on the PS3 despite selling slightly fewer games then on the 360 because the PS3 sales are concentrated in Europe and Japan where games sell for more absolute dollars (due to exchange rate).

Microsoft is concentrating on one relatively meaningless rubric here, what matters is Worldwide sales. They are picking and choosing for PR purposed just like when they reported they were the number one US console at E3 when that very week the Wii was passing up the 360 up (and never looking back). However they slice it there is no way that FFXIII is going to sell more on the 360 WW even with a Japan release (just like RE5 didn't, PS3 is more then 200k ahead atm). Also where the PS3 is strongest the games are worth the most profit, so that makes it doubly stupid for them to concentrate on the least profitable of the 3 markets to crow about. Most publishers would almost certainly rather have the game sell better OUTSIDE the US then in it.
